Forums › ANNOUNCEMENTS, FAQs, IDEAS, ISSUES, & FEEDBACK › LM Announcements / Site Discussion › Google AI Overview: Cakewalk Forum Succeeded by LinkedMusicians
I posted this at OPEN MIC, but considering how most of you never go beyond the physical and virtual music deals subforum, I wanted to make sure you saw it.
According to Google AI Overviews, Cakewalk Forum is no longer operational and has been succeeded by LinkedMusicians! I just saw this and captured the screenshot 15 minutes ago. Read it for yourself. Facts! 😉

@bluescat, @joegyork, @lamia6, @doug you guys need to see the above screenshot. We won! Hahaha. 😉

Ha ha – AI still has a long way to go but amusing reading! I was looking for some information about my home town (Hartlepool) buses in the 1950’s, 60’s & 70’s and it had everything totally wrong – wrong vehicles and wrong operators – it seemed to be ok from the 80’s onwards. Best not ask for any historical information then!
I’m hoping all those left behind find their way over here.
Keep inviting others here. We’ve seen a significant spike in visits in the last few months, but to sustain that growth and convert more lurkers to registered members, we need more people posting.
There’s so much that we can do with this place if we can continue our growth. Things like exclusive deals, including group buys, group chats with developers and musicians, add forums that we want to see. This place is our canvas. It’s done out of passion, not some money grab — which frankly, that’s what all of the big forums have become, and the blogs I used to enjoy reading have become little more than shills for developers and retailers. The industry is experiencing very healthy growth, but from my perspective, the beauty of music is in the passion of the art, and all of the money stifles honest conversations, whether it’s honest conversations about the tools we use, making music, the toxicity of social media (including forums in this industry).
I created this as a place where people could share the good and bad experiences with the tools they use, without the forum owner censoring them or without worrying about other members trolling them. We’re not constrained by those limits and censorship of a developer owned forum and the shilling and often toxicity that is common on the big forums doing money grabs.
I wish I didn’t have to turn to affiliate programs to fund the site. I hate the appearance of it. But in more than a year, we’ve had a total of around $60 in contributions and more than $3,000 in costs. I’ve already had developers talk about advertising, but we’re still around a year off of the point when advertising revenue could sustain the costs of running this site and email.

interesting AI perspective LOL. the Cakewalk forums are going strong and growing. a number of folks who left are now back under new accounts (partly shame? partly because they got banned a few times? dunno) but it is interesting.
Cakewalk Forums growing? Where do you see that?
The deals subforum is certainly not growing. They show the views for each thread, and most threads are only averaging between 50 – 80 views with little to no interaction and maybe 30 (50 at most) regulars who post, the most regular being members with a history of making racist and bigoted posts (they recently made two bigoted threads that two of our members PMed me about, where one member told, what was apparently a gay man that his “lifestyle” was immoral and that he would be his “demon” if he didn’t leave the group; I suppose that is a form of entertainment for some, but the polar opposite of how I believe people should treat one another; for reference, I’ll share this idea: “Love one another”). For a forum owned by a $425 million valued software company, that’s surprisingly low. Are you referring to cclarrry coming back energized to prolifically post almost as much as he hate posts including reposting neo-Nazi leaders, charts of Jews in the US government with stars of David mimicking those used in Hitler’s concentration camps, white nationalists, racism, anti-LGBTQ, antisemtism, Islamaphobia, and racist xenophobia on Facebook?
He/his pals have already done two hate threads about LinkedMusicnians / yours truly — and have registered troll account here to cause trouble, one using a disparaging nickname for me — and I’d give them credit if they came up with something funny, but they didn’t. It’s sad, IMO.
I monitor all of the major forums, plus a few plugin deal focused subreddits, a Facebook Group, and Cakewalk deals subforum, so I get everything in one interface (well, everything except Facebook Groups), so I do see what they’re posting pretty regularly. At least that group is pretty dead compared to what it was a year ago.

just my sense from visting it daily. i don’t really care about the “deals” section, mostly i’m interested in helping folks better use the product, report bugs (rare), or read up on techniques.
don’t really know anything about “larry”. i saw a bunch of spamming back in the day but thought he got banned. he was on my blocked list for years because of the noise.
not surprised about haters. they seem to be everywhere these days. if i have someone hating on me, i block them or call their boss if they persist (everybody serves somebody…).

Okay, I plead total ignorance to the rest of Cakewalk forum! I only know about the Deals forum and I used to LOVE the song sharing forum (I forgot what it’s called).
As far as haters — I would rather this community cease to grow than allow that kind of stuff. This place is meant to be a creative refuge from that kind of toxicity. I don’t think healthy creativity exists in those environments. That’s why I didn’t just t a subreddit or Facebook Group, I prefer having a smaller, friendlier community than a large one that is nearly impossible to manage (nice rationalization for not having 100,000 members, right?).
If anyone EVER gives anyone else any hate at this forum, report it (click the link above the posts). I realize that no community is going be totally free of that stuff, but the policy and process here is zero tolerance of toxic behavior. At worst, you guys see my way too posts! But I’m always friendly and I’m trying to do a better job of not doing so many long posts! It just takes me a lot longer to make a shorter post than a long one! True story. 🙂
