I’ve spent A LOT of money with Plugin Boutique over the years, and since launching LinkedMusicians, I’m in their affiliate program to help with the costs of operating the site. I wanted to be in their affiliate program because in the years that I have been a Plugin Boutique customer, they’ve always been outstanding to deal with. From a customer support standpoint, I’ve found Plugin Boutique to be top-notch. Considering that some of the retailers in this space have nonexistent customer support, I greatly appreciate that and don’t take it for granted. I’ve recommended the store to others many times.
I occasionally interact with Grace and Liam at Plugin Boutique and have found them both to be genuinely nice, very helpful people. I’ve also found Plugin Boutique to be a lot more organized and proactive than most retailers in this space. The way they handled Black Friday was a model other retailers in this space could learn from. I’ve served as a judge for a number of the largest US marketing associations, assessing the quality of companies’ e-commerce efforts, email marketing, social media programs. marketing strategies, and campaigns. If I were assessing Plugin Boutique, based on what I have seen, they would rank vey high.
I think a lot of music producers who post on the big social media platforms and the various forums tend to think of the retailers and more well-known indie developers in this space as big companies, and they’re not. Except for Sweetwater, Guitar Center, and Thomann, most of the retailers we buy digital gear from tend to be small businesses. Technically, as Plugin Boutique is owned by Beatport, so depending on whether you are looking at them from US or European standards, Beatport would be considered a small to mid-size company — they’re a small fraction of the size of Sweetwater, Guitar Center, or Thomann.
I wish them continued success and enjoyed seeing the faces of the people I’ve been buying from and interacting with via email all of these years and thought other LMers might feel the same.
