I’ve just released my second album ‘Night Call’. Sound-wise, it has a darker edge to it. Think along the lines of ’80s/90s synth bands but brought right up to date. Sound-wise, there are elements of The Cure, the darker side of Depeche Mode, Editors, early Verve, Radiohead etc.
A number of the songs touch on anxiety, fear, and isolation, and others that capture the hope of the human experience.
I’d be really interested in what people think.

Very cool, @plc69. I like it. As you and I discussed in OPEN MIC, we share a lot of similar influences. I love The Cure, Depeche Mode, Joy Division and other influences you mentioned. While I can hear those influences in your music, I think you and your band bring all of those influences together to create your own sound, which is immediately likable due to the strong melodies and great sounds the band brings together.
[EDIT]
Your post inspired me to figure out if I could embed BandCamp audio / your music here at LinkedMusicians and, after a little digging, I figured it out how to do exactly that and am now sharing your music for this week on the right-hand side bar — check it out. I want LinkedMusicians to be a platform for our members to share their music with others and try to shine a spotlight on members whose music I think our community will enjoy, and I think your music will absolutely appeal to a lot of our members, including me. I picked a favorite from your recent album, “Only In This Corner of the World.” Great job to you and the band!

Check out my music.
Excellent! Thank you. I’m just back from an open-mic, so this is timely!
I can’t see the right-hand sidebar, though I’m currently on my phone, so will switch to checking out the site on my laptop tomorrow.
As for the band, there’s just me. I do everything. I’ve learnt a ton of stuff – not least Ableton, which was initially an uphill struggle, but also website design, digital distribution, CD/LP design, promo videos, the whole lot. Not that I’m complaining, I thoroughly enjoy most of it.
Truly, the hardest thing is getting people to listen – so I really appreciate you posting my music on your site.
If there’s anyone who would like a free download of the new album, I have about half a dozen codes to give away, just DM me.
Thanks.

Good stuff, Paul! I detect a slight “Under the Milky Way” era The Church sound to the vocals, especially in the lower register. The higher register evokes (and maybe I’m reaching here) a slight bit of Ian McCulloch from the Bunnymen. Like Peter, my biggest musical influences are The Cure and Joy Division (I’m kinda’… “famous” for being The Joy Division Guy here in my home of Belize. Ironic, considering my main musical output is reggae/ska/rocksteady. lol). I’d love to hear more pronounced bass, a la Simon Gallup, in your stuff, but I understand and respect your personal musical vision. It’s very good as it is, so don’t mind me too much. 🙂
Your music definitely takes me back to the days when I was steeped in this type of synth/dark/pop/wave awesomeness.

Tommy Apocalypse (reggae, ska, rocksteady)
Mt. Sanity (synthwave, '80s style synthpop)
Lord of Admixture (heavy guitar-driven punk/post punk)
The Self-Imposed Limitations Orchestra (experimental instrumental music)
...and several more, as well as some solo work
Thank you, Tom, your words are much appreciated. I handle all of the elements in the recording – and bass guitar isn’t my first instrument, so I go for feel more than anything. With some songs on the album (e.g. Fireflies), I’ve gone for a synth bass, which may well scratch the itch.
I’m a huge Church fan, so it’s lovely to see that reference. Same for the Bunneys.
There’s definitely elements of both The Cure and JD on my album ‘Night Call’, so definitely check out tracks such as ‘(We’re Lost) Forever More’ and ‘Into The Forest’, I reckon that they’ll be right up your street, Tom.
