If anyone wants to connect on Facebook, you can find me (okay, my pseudonym from my musician days) here. I am contemplating building up the social media channels for LinkedMusicians in the future:

Do we have any Rush fans here? I’m certainly one.
Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson have decided to give it another go. The surviving members of Rush are going on tour next year. You can see the dates in the attached graphic.

Single kick, I like her already. Her playing on the song sounds like she’s listened to some Neil for sure, and probably really digs Steve Gadd.

A great observation, @superrabbit. Okay, maybe I’m biased saying , great observation, because I too, was super impressed by the fact that she’s only using one bass drum pedal — I assumed that she was using a double bass pedal when I first heard her. Nope. She just has a super quick foot and great technique — and great technique all around. She’s…Read More

Well, one thing I’ve seen this week, as website traffic has more than doubled over the last week, registrations are starting to pick up and SPAMMERS are registering at a rate of around 5-7 per day. I have been impressed at how well our software has been doing at catching them. Only one got through and made a SPAM topic, which I deleted within 30…Read More

Looking over the latest website stats, we grew by 65.4% over the last 28 days, which is an increase from our previous growth rate over the past few months, which has stayed around 51-53 percent per month. Our registrations are picking up a little. They’re always higher during periods when people are posting on the site. That remains our greatest…Read More

What’s your Franks Red Hot in plugin form, you know, the “I Put That SH*T On Everything” one that just seems to fit in everywhere?
For me it’s Overloud’s Gem Mod for whatever width everything needs. Does the job perfectly, and so efficiently too. (yes the one that was a freebie at some point, can’t remember where though).

You mean on every track or in every project?
There’s nothing that I use on every track, as close as I’d get to that would be MCompressor and MEqualizer.
On every project, my go to bus reverb is MTurboReverb. My output meter is Mastering the Mix LEVELS. Those are the only plug-ins that are in all of my templates.

I was recently talking to an indie developer about the market overall and the extreme deep discounting and how it puts pressure for developers to do very significant deep discounts to get attention in this market. Here we are months ahead of Black Friday and we have unbelievable discounts from developers big (NI, UAD, UJAM, IK, UVI…) and small.…Read More

Some time ago when Klevgrand released “Revolv”, I absolutely didn’t need another reverb but I though it was so cool that I wanted to take advantage of the “introductory price” so I bought it, then, if I remember correct, it was just a couple of weeks after the introductory price offer ended, the company started a huge sale that made the plugin…Read More

Not surprisingly for those who know my taste in plug-in houses, I like the way MeldaProduction handles it. It’s never a big mystery when the sales are going to be and how much they are going to discount. They have their Eternal Madness Sale, in which every week 4 of their products are chosen (seemingly by some sort of weighted randomization…Read More

You’re the person who turned me on to MeldaProduction. To be really candid, I had remembered long ago when the developer did sock puppet accounts on KVR hyping up his stuff and I wrote him off as a scammer. Now, I can share that story, because he recently acknowledged it himself in a podcast. But he’s an incredible developer. Okay, 20 years from…Read More

If you are not familiar with 404 Media, check them out. Tech journalists extraordinaire. This should be a free read to non-subscribers. I recommend the free newsletter if the sub it out of your budget. They cover ALL tech, but I thought this story might be of interest to LM.
EDIT == Sorry- this story is now paywalled…Read More

My wife was just showing me how this musician who goes by the name Plumes doesn’t just sing to audiences of people, but performs for wild animals. So far, I’ve seen videos of rhinos, a tortoise, and this sealion. The animals seemed soothed by his music.

What was responsible for you deciding to learn a musical instrument? Did your parent/guardian enroll you in music lessons or did you decide on your own?
How old were you? And, if you chose to learn on your own, what inspired you to want to learn?

13 years old. Christmas 1970 I received a $30 Tiesco electric guitar that I asked for. I took lessons for about three months and just kept playing. Started giving lessons myself a few years later. Memorable year because that Christmas morning Jupiter, Venus and Mars were all near each other (in conjunction) in the pre-dawn sky. My Dad’s love of…Read More

I used to run a Facebook Group called “Kindness” years ago. I suppose I was very motivated to do that when my kids were young and I wanted to impress upon them the imporrtance of kindness and caring for others. I would post inspiring stories and quotes about people doing acts of kindness in the group. While I stopped posting in it, I thought this…Read More

So, I was compiling lists of the best free audio production videos for the NEW Audio Production FORUM, using videos that I’ve saved in playlists over the years. Please join in these lists and add your own recommendations — and in my feed on YouTube was a video that seemed like it knew me. It was titled, “How to Mix Your Sh*tty Vocals.” I cracked…Read More

What have you actually learned from your influences?
We can all list the artists we’ve been influenced by, but I think it’s more interesting to list the things you’ve actually taken from them.
For example, I would say that I’ve learned how to do bends from Jimmy Page.
Melody from David Gilmour.
I don’t play bass that much, but most of what I…Read More

This is such a great question. But it’s one that takes time to respond to. (I did respond earlier, but somehow, it was deleted).
I have so many influences that taught me various things. For songwriters, I’ve learned from everyone that’s moved me. Because I grew up with a musician and music teacher mother, and my mother’s education was classic…Read More

Anika Nilles, a killer drummer out of Germany, will be taking over Neil Peart’s drum duties. If you haven’t heard her, I think she’s going to do a great job.
