Introducing the Native Instruments Insolvency Hub

UPDATE MAY 8, 2026

After three months of uncertainty, Native Instruments CEO Nick Williams has officially announced a definitive agreement for NI to be acquired by inMusic Brands. This marks the end of NI’s preliminary insolvency proceedings and begins a new era under the same umbrella as industry titans like Akai Professional and Moog Music. For more details, visit the Native Instruments Insolvency Hub.

Today marks April 28, 2026—exactly 91 days since Native Instruments filed for preliminary insolvency on January 27. In the landscape of German business law, this is a pivotal date. For the past three months, the German government has guaranteed employee salaries through “Insolvengeld,” a safety net that provided stability while the company began its initial restructuring.

As that 90-day window closes, the transition to formal insolvency proceedings begins. This shift moves the company out of government-backed wage protection and into a phase defined by court-monitored restructuring and active negotiations with potential new owners.

Why the Industry is Watching

Native Instruments has been a pillar of the virtual studio for decades. Even as the industry evolves and developers find new ways to reach creators, NI’s footprint remains significant:

  • A Massive Creative Investment: For many of us, our hard drives represent years of curated libraries. While resourceful developers have viable alternatives and secondary platforms, Kontakt remains the most common “host” for the sounds we use every day.
  • Workflow Continuity: For the hobbyist and the pro alike, the concern isn’t just about “business”; it’s about ensuring the tools we’ve paid for and learned inside-out continue to activate and function as expected.
  • The Developer Ecosystem: Many of the high-quality indie developers we feature on this platform rely on Kontakt or the Kontakt player. Their ability to navigate this transition smoothly is important for the variety and health of the entire music-making community.

Introducing the NI Insolvency Hub

LinkedMusicians was founded to be a neutral, non-developer-owned space. Because we aren’t part of a larger corporate entity, we can prioritize transparency and “signal” over marketing noise.

We’ve just launched the NI Insolvency Hub specifically to help our members cut through the rumors, nonsense, misinformation, and dishonest legacy forum platform owners with a competitive agenda against NI. This hub features our PowerSEARCH engine to index only high-authority, vetted sources:

  • Official Legal Status: Direct tracking of the Amtsgericht Berlin-Charlottenburg filings to see the actual legal progression of the case.
  • Corporate Transparency: Access to the Prowly PR feed for formal statements and leadership updates, stripped of typical promotional content.
  • Vetted Tech Journalism: Real-time indexing of deep-dive reporting from trusted voices like CDM (Create Digital Music) and Sound on Sound.
  • Real-Time Community Pulse: Curated threads from the NI Subreddit (r/NativeInstruments) to see how the community is practically handling license and software updates.

How to Use the Hub

You can find the Hub under our new RESEARCH TOOLS menu. It is designed to be a “Radar” for the community—a place to check in when you hear a rumor and want to see the actual receipts. Use it to search for keywords like “acquisition,” “licensing,” or “formal proceedings” to get the latest updates.

As a former musician and an advisor in this space for two decades, I know how much time and passion we all put into our setups. The NI Insolvency Hub is here to ensure that the facts are easy to find, so you can spend less time worrying about your software and more time making music.
