I have a rule from my days running a marketing strategy publication I founded, when PR people for book authors sent me a book, I would only write about books I could recommend. I ended up writing about maybe 2 percent of the books that I received. Since starting LinkedMusicians, developers and retailers have started to ask me about NFRs. I tell them the same rules apply here — I only write about sample libraries, plugins, and presets that I can genuinely recommend. So sending me something is never a guarantee that I will write about it. I have developers I’ve become friends with and I’ve never posted about their sample libraries or plugins because they just didn’t appeal to me.
So, I tried out the Synth Icons Bundle using Analog Lab Intro today — yep, the free version of Analog Lab, you don’t need to own a paid Arturia plugin to use these presets. There are a ton of usable, really good to great-sounding presets. I am not even halfway through all of the presets and I easily favorited more than 100 presets. I’ve been working on an arrangement of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” and I could easily use a bunch of presets I found in this bundle to handle various synth parts in the song. It especially has a lot of great retro presets — pads, leads, arpeggios, plucks… I’m very impressed and even before going through all of it, I can easily recommend this from what I’ve heard already. If it only included the presets I’ve gone through — less than half of all of the included presets — it would easily justify the sale price. Consequently, I very easily recommend this.
