We have something special for you:

LUX Orchestral Strings Elements is a free composing tool built from the same recordings as our flagship string library, LUX Orchestral Strings. Five string sections. Four standard articulations per section: Sustain, Spiccato, Tremolo, Sul Ponticello Tremolo. Enough to write complete, production-ready string cues.

This is the sound of a 70-piece symphonic ensemble recorded on a scoring stage. Download it, keep it, compose with it.

      WHAT’S INCLUDED
All five string sections: 1st Violins, 2nd Violins, Violas, Celli, Basses
Four core articulations per section covering melody, rhythm, and tension
Same recordings and mix as the full LUX Orchestral Strings
1st Violins Legato demo (one octave) so you can hear the flagship legato quality

Elements gives you the essential tools to compose complete string cues. The full version of LUX Orchestral Strings adds the Ensemble instrument, multiple mic mixes, full legato across all sections, articulation sets, morphing articulations, and the complete range of extended techniques.

Start with Elements. If you want more, the full library is waiting.

This requires the full version of Kontakt, version 6.7.1 or higer.

I just had a chance to spend around 15 minutes with this free library — and it is indeed a free Kontakt Player compatible library. It sounds beautiful. The patches are very usable (violin legato is only one octave, but the rest of it is very usable). I love it and find it inspirational. It’s definitely a 10 out of 10 for a free sample library and will make the LinkedMusicians list of best free Kontakt sample libraries.

One commenter at BPB mentioned this:

Why is the top panel with the routing and other things disabled? You can’t select MIDI channels at all. Outputs and levels can only be changed through the instruments’ built in mixer, which is several clicks away from the standard Kontakt UI. Level meters don’t appear to work.

            Was that also your experience?

It worked flawlessly for me. I just loaded it up, put on headphones, and started playing through all of the patches and it sounded great. No problems whatsoever. It is one of the most usable permanently free string sample libraries that I have tried out, and I’ve tried out literally several hundred sample libraries just in the past 4 years in maintaining the two best of free sample library lists.

@swijaya I follow this channel. The YouTuber simply shows screenshots of plugins and sample libraries and plays through all of the presets. He’s an okay player, and just put up a playthrough of LUX that will give you a completely realistic idea of how the various patches sound.
