It got my attention, but it appears that the free Soundbox Player doesn’t include any sounds — is that right? It appears that you need to spend $29 for a soundbank to have sounds.

Yes, that’s how I understand it too.

So it’s rah rah! Our sound player that doesn’t come with any sounds is totally FREE!!!! I can’t imagine there will be too many takers for that offer. They should at least include a selection of songs with free player so people can figure out if they like it. Again, unless I got it wrong. But their website is as clear as mud.

DISCLOSURE: I’ve advised more than 3 dozen sample and plugin developers on branding and marketing strategy. I’ve never been paid to make posts, they reflect my sincere opinions, and I’ve never been an influencer.

I think it is more than just a sound player. The text does say

This revolutionary MPE sampler and instrument platform empowers you to craft bespoke virtual instruments that perfectly match your unique sonic vision. Forget limitations – Soundbox puts you in control.

It might be interesting if the free version allowed you to develop your own instruments. It sound like competition to Soundpaint/Kontakt.

This would be a clever signature if I could think of one.

If you own the other AudioModern stuff, you can log in to get a complete bundle price.  Mine is 62 Euros.  I love their MIDI stuff (except ChordJam), but this doesn’t look that interesting to me. Yet another proprietary razor / blades (sampler / samples) approach to marketing. Calling it “FREE” when you are only allowed to use it after BUYING a sample library is just B.S.  I downloaded and installed the app, and here is where the “demo” ends:

“Soundbox can be activated using a valid license key provided with any purchased instrument”

Bite me.

Sample tank is free but still not a popular instrument and sampler on its own . Let’s see if Soundbox stand the test of time.
