Forums › YOUR MUSIC › Share Your Music › A couple for the Grandkids
Here are a couple of folk oldies that are part of the tracks I am making for my Grandkids to hear on their “Yoto” MP3 players. I am cranking these out to (eventually) make 100 tracks, so they are a little rough. The Yoto is a mono device, so little attention is given to stereo mixing. I do the vocals, play guitar (Godin Multiac Mundial using dual pickup mix plus there is some acoustic bleed into the vocal mic) and a Squire Jaguar Bass- both DI. I recently bought a Tascam Model 12 mixer that has an integrated 10 track recorder (SD card). I record the tracks (44 Khz/ 24 bit WAV) on that and copy over to Studio One later to mix- really just level, EQ and limiter.

This is really beautiful and represents how music can be such an important part of our family traditions. It reminded me of when I was in my 20s, I would head up to Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and listen to folk musicians play until the wee hours of the night (some of the well-known alums include John Prine, Steve Goodman, Roger McGuinn of The Byrds, and Mike Bloomfield). Most of all, it’s a great example of how important music is in our lives and with our families, something personal and accessible, not merely just something done for money. It represents what I had in mind when I wrote “for the love of music” for LinkedMusicians.
It’s a great gift to share with your grandchildren, Brian. And thank you for sharing it with us, too. It’s really special. Great job!
