Bestservice are posting on vi-contr
Hello,
as you have been noticing, our website is temporarily unavailable due to a technical issue. We’re working closely with our IT team to resolve it as fast as possible.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
For updates, please check here:
https://www.bestservice.com/index.html
I sent an email with this message in it to their affiliate manager on June 13, 2025. He has never responded:
“An e-commerce site going down for one day is concerning; three days, it looks as if you’ve gone out of business. Especially with the lack of communication.
Can you tell me what is going on? My community is asking questions.”

Ah, okay. From the thread at VI-Control where Best Service is posting –where the crowd quickly went toxic and people started arguing with each other — Best Service’s email is not working. Of course, that’s one more reason they should have been communicating in social media. I’m not looking to castigate them for this, but I just hope (1) they’re okay and get things resolved very soon, and (2) if/when they get their site and email back up, that they learn from this experience on the IT end and on the communication end, that when you have a crisis like this, you DO NOT stop communication with the public and your partners. If your email isn’t working, you use your social media accounts to communicate clearly and respond to questions. You never go dark.

Well, the VIC thread gave us this at least, so maybe things are not as nefarious:
In addition, we would like to add that your Best Service User Accounts and associated licenses have not been impacted by this technical incident. Thanks again for your patience.
Of course, that’s good to see.
They should be sharing that message on their social media accounts on the major platforms and over on their official customer support forum on KVR — where I (edrummist) started a thread last week. They should have shared that message several days ago — the first thing a company should be doing in a crisis like this is, if they have information like that to share with the public that will reassure them — get that message out.
FTR, I usually don’t post in any other music-related forums than this one.

Here’s the big question to everyone in this community (of course, as we now see around 15 unregistered visitors for every registered visitor, only those who are registered members can weigh in). When Best Service is back up — let’s say it’s a week from now or weeks from now, are you still comfortable buying from them? I’ve created a poll where everyone can provide their input.
It’s important to get everyone’s input on this because affiliate links are the best chance for LinkedMusicians to move from me being the primary means of financial support to it becoming financially self-sufficient, or at least closer to being self-sufficient. I created this community as a passion project. I urge everyone to check out the various parts of the site and I think you can see that there’s a lot more here than just deals. The objective was never to attempt to rival the size or money brought in by VI-Control, KVR, or GearSpace. Frankly, I don’t think the standards for non-toxicity of this community could easily scale to a community size that large (although the big difference is also in the level of commitment a site owner has to those kinds of values, but delivering on those ideals becomes very challenging in larger communities).
If / When Bestservice.com Is Operational, Will You Buy From Them Again?

Note what the VI-Control member responsible for sharing the original info on Best Service’s website wrote in the latest post on the thread:
“This is the ugliest thread I can recall at VI-C – I’m out of this one. There’s civil discussion and there’s whatever this has suddenly turned into. So long, and thanks for all of the fish. I’ll just keep reloading best serviNce each day or check KVR for updates.”

I wonder if they were brought down by a data loss event (hardware failure, ransomware event, system hacked, etc.).
Many companies think they’re covered – that all they have to do was restore their most recent backup and rebuild from there only to discover
#2 use to be and maybe still is the most common that I’d see for small to midsized businesses.
Unfortunately many businesses never recover from a major data disaster because they didn’t have the proper verified contingency plans in effect.
I seem to recall seeing an analysis about 10 years back that said 70% of businesses that suffer a major data loss go out of business.
I like(d) Best Service, hope they can successfully resurface.
As far as their lack of communication part of it could be that it’s taking them days to realize just how screwed they are.
Saw something along these lines happen with a major company not that far back where their systems went down and everyday they thought they’d be back up tomorrow, but tomorrow they’d discover new issues complicating things. Only know the details because I knew some people working there; but it took over week before they could partially do business and much longer before they fully recovered.
They didn’t want to drive their customers to their competitors so they didn’t say much of anything to the public.
It was a lose / lose situation – either option risked losing customers.
This morning, I heard back from one of Best Service’s managers. I asked him if I have his permission to share the message that he gave me, at least in part, as he was sharing it with me as an affiliate partner.
I offered a free consultation call with Best Service — and even volunteered to bring in a friend of mine who is a very experienced Fortune 200 PR exec and has a good deal of experience with crisis communications (I didn’t ask him yet, but wer’e not just former colleagues; he’s a long time friend).
All I can say is that I do feel much better now that one of their managers reached out to me and I urged him to establish more communication with the public during this time. I do feel for a company that’s in this kind of situation. After hearing from him, I certainly plan on continuing to give Best Service my business when they’re back online. Unquestionably, they’re losing a lot of money over these past 10 days. I wish them nothing but the best and hope they can get their site back online soon. He did give me a projection, but I will not share it until he gives me permission to do so.

I just received a response from Marko from Best Service. He explained that the reason they hadn’t gotten back to me is that their emails have been down for one week and that Best Service does not want me to share the information that Marlo shared privately with me, but instead direct our community to their website. Consequently, I will respect their wishes.
After our communication, I do believe that Best Service is working hard to restore their website and will have it up in the near future.
I’ll do my best to stay on top of that, but if anyone sees any changes there first, please post it in this thread.

Okay, I have another email from Best Service, this one is from the affiliate manager. I can share this information. While they don’t have a solid date on when Bestservice.com will be back up, they appear confident that they will NOT be operational again this week. So, let’s try again next week. I’ll keep this thread updated and make a post if I learn anything more that I can share.

I just realized that I mistyped the above comment. I revised it. I meant to write that Best Service seemed confident that they would have their site operational that week. Hopefully, we’ll see them back this week as we head into the thirteenth day with Bestservice.com down.

Should we still believe in a resurrection? 😬🤔
An e-commerce site being down for a full two weeks, that’s usually enough to say that it’s bit the dust. Something isn’t right that they’re down so long if they were using solid backup practices.
When I looked up info on Best Service, according to LinkedIn, they have less than 12 employees. Beyond their website, they are a sample library distributor that sells libraries through numerous retailers. I have no idea what percentage of the company’s revenue the e-commerce business makes up, but I would guess that it’s likely the majority of the company’s revenue (a blind guess, so I could easily be dead wrong). But it’s really hard to believe that a company that derives a significant portion of its revenue from its ecommerce business could have mismanaged its data so badly that they’ve taken two weeks to get back up or they just aren’t using well qualified professionals to handle their site. Over the course of my career, I’ve advised more than 200 companies, including having responsibility for several corporate and e-commerce sites; three of them, well known global brands, and I was never was aware of any of them having gone offline for a couple of days, let alone two weeks.
So, being really candid, it does speak to very poor processes. It doesn’t inspire confidence, and I think Best Service’s lack of communication with the public has made things far worse. Then, when they have communicated, they’ve been vague and even made some concerning statements about data security that would lead one to believe they were hacked. I don’t mean to be harsh on a small business, but when you get involved in an e-commerce business, a huge, non-negotiable part of the job is protecting people’s data and following best practices in your data and security processes. If you can’t get your site back online within a day, it’s a huge red flag that you were not following responsible data practices.
I realize that we have IT pros here that have actual technical skills far, far, far beyond me. But I’ve been responsible for managing this area at corporations going back to the 90s. Two weeks is outrageous. Yes, two people from the company told me that they projected they’d be back online this week, but here we are, and they’re not giving us anything new. While I will continue using them when / if they get back online, I would NEVER give them a credit card. NEVER. I would STRONGLY urge everyone to do the same when it comes to every small retailer in this space. Consider that there are retailers in this space whose owners / CEOs hide their names from their websites and then expect people to turn over their credit card numbers and personal data. Yes, I don’t have confidence that these companies have their acts together when it comes to data security. Their websites often look like amateur hour, one man shows. So, again, I’d strongly recommend that everyone limits the personal information they provide and also that they DO NOT store their credit card information at these shops.

@peter, if you send them a message again, ask if they are planning to come back, why is the domain for sale on Sedo. If anyone was to buy that, they will be instantly out of business, and that seems sus to me.

Are we confident that it’s legit, though? I’m not going to email them questions at this point. I’m sure they’re dealing with a ton of questions. They projected that they’d be online this week, so let’s see if they do that.

@patrickwichrowski The meme in your post was there, then it was gone. I only have one response to your humorous meme:

Checking Best Service’s website every morning for 16 days to find that it’s still down, it feels a lot like the Bill Murray movie, “Ground Hog Day,” where the same day repeats over and over.

Marko from Best Service just emailed me an update, ” we are definitely coming back online… we are confident to say that we are looking forward to be back this week.”
There it is. I sure hope that’s the case.
Now for a related song from a band that comes from my hometown.

Best Service replied in another forum that their website is not for sale
I never had confidence that was legit (the domain being for sale). I’m going to trust that Marko is shooting straight with me that they’re going to get the site back up this week. He was very confident in his last email, whereas last week, he was hopeful; today, he seemed certain that the site will be back up this week. Hey, I am cheering for them. I hope they get their house in order to avoid anything like this in the future.

It’s a little past 7PM in Germany, where Best Service is located, and I suspect that their site is not going to be back up this week, as they projected. Let’s hope for next week.
