Forums › MUSIC AUDIO PRODUCTION › Recording, Mixing & Mastering Discussion › Distribution – what are your thoughts, experiences with Distrokid?
I have been looking up a few of the places and Distrokid seems to be the best deal for distribution, with the most reach (as far as I can tell). Just wondering if anyone here is with them, and how is it?
Personally I use CDBaby. You pay for the release once and any monies to be paid out are paid quarterly…for the rest of your life! 🙂 I’ve released 3 albums with them and with absolutely no marketing on my part I get about 100.00 a quarter…last quarter my BMI payment was 100.00 as well. For not pushing my music much that’s pretty good!
I’ve heard good things about DistroKid but it’s an annual subscription and that makes me wary, the last album release cost about 40 or 50 bucks and I’ll make that back quick 🙂 And keep making music without having to pay again…and again…and again 😉
If you’re serious about releasing material make sure you sign up for a PRO(Performing Rights Organization) and use that with whoever you release with! I’m retired now so I’ll be spending some thought and time on marketing with my next release 🙂
