Announcing LinkedMusicians Mixtapes.
As a kid, you may have made mixtapes — cassettes, CDs or maybe even Spotify playlists — of your favorite songs for friends or crushes, depending on your age. Some of us obsessive music nerds made Mixtapes to expose our friends, fellow musicians, and bandmates to new artists and new music. That’s the spirit of LinkedMusicians Mixtapes.
Our hope is to expose you to new music from our community members that we believe are worthy of more exposure. Our Mixtapes are largely compiled from our listening to music shared in LinkedMusicians “Share Your Music” forum and our awareness of the music our members make.
In the future, we’ll be expanding LinkedMusicians Mixtapes to include compilations created by our featured members of indie artists they believe deserve a listen. I also hope, as our community grows, to get others involved and do things like vote on song selections and involve pro and semi-pro musicians and music educators in putting together the playlists. Of course, as a young community, that’s not feasible at this point, so, I’ve taken the bull by the horns and am putting them together.
CURATED BEST FREE LISTS: Kontakt Libraries, Sample Libraries, Virtual Synths, Effects

That’s great! This was just Mixtape #1. I’m already looking to compile Mixtape #2. I see you have a new album coming out soon! Of course, I’m looking forward to that.
I am thinking about ways I can incorporate players into the site so that people can more easily do what you’re doing. Of course, right now, it just means having one tab with the Mixtapes page and another for persuing the forums and Groups. I welcome your thoughts and am looking forwawrd to getting your music on a future Mixtape!

This is such a great idea!
Thanks.
As you know, this site is my passion project, my love letter to music, music-making, and recognizing, holding up, and encouraging others to make music in an environment that is committed to being open, friendly, respectful, and inclusive. Why? I believe that the toxicity commonplace on the big composing, plugin, and gear forums and the major social media platforms stifles honest conversation, is too focused/driven by commerce (the blogs I once enjoyed have turned into product promotion machines) and causes people to hesitate or cease to have honest conversations for concerns that they might face a less than welcoming response.
While I need to be the curator of the Mixtapes to get this feature off the ground, I do plan to expand it so that we get the community involved in creating future Mixtapes and also, having some of the featured artists put together their own Mixtapes — possibly of underappreciated artists that inspire them. But at this stage of the community, it’s not realistic to have crowdsourced Mixtapes, so the reality is, I’m presently the sole curator. I am contemplating having some of the featured artists as curators. We just had a suggestion to do video Mixtapes, and that was an easy yes, so that’s coming in the future.
I urge everyone to feel free, if they have an idea they’d love to see come to life — even if it’s really wild (and likely beyond my meager budget for the site) — to post it in the Suggestion Box. Even if don’t have the budget to fully execute an awesome idea, there can still be ways to do a more practical execution, so I urge everyone to share their ideas, that’s what the LM Suggesstion Box subforum is for:

I’m experimenting with putting a streaming player with LinkedMusicians Mixtapes on the upper right-hand side of pages of the forum. On one hand, it’s really convenient there, and makes it easy for everyone to see and enjoy. On the other hand, once you leave the page you’re on, the music stops playing. So, if you’re enjoying the music and want to leave it on while visit the various parts of the site, you can simply open another browser tab.
Let me know what you think. I’m excited to finally see the ideas I’ve had for this site since the beginning come to life and also, to give more exposure to some very talented members who are producing music at a very high level, that can inspire us all. Hopefully, you can see that this community is much more than a deals forum. It’s about our shared love of music and making music. As we’re a young community — and this is a passion project, not something focused on optimizing for bringing in revenue — it’s about encouraging our members, encouraging each other. I’ll soon be featuring the site’s tagline more and more, “For the Love of Music.” That’s what all of this is about.
Please, let me know what you think. If you have feedback, ideas, or suggestions about any aspect of the site, please share them in the “Suggestion Box” subforum. We’re a young and growing community. I specifically chose a platform that was MUCH, MUCH more than a forum, but a social media platform with strong content management, a forum, and a robust messaging system that enables this site to go far, far beyond what other music-related forums do. Hopefully, little by little, that will become apparent, and you’ll step beyond the deals forum and see how much there is here. We have barely scratched the surface at this point.
