Tagged: Audio PC new build
In the beginning of this year, 2024, I had to build up a new audio PC because my
old box (an Intel 3770) crashed after 11 years.
Since it had been over 10 years since I last assembled an audio PC, I had to do a lot of research into which components are working well, of course.
My Basic Questions: Which components are:
1. are efficient
2. are as quiet as possible
3. cost as little as possible.
4. which components are running smoothly with my audio card, an RME Raydat.
To musicians who face the same task, I will give a few clues as to how these components fit together to build the quietest possible PC, I’ll write down the components installed here:
Intel Core i7-12700K, 12 Core (8+4), 8x 3600 MHz
Intel U/HD-Video OnChip
Cooler:: Deepcool Gammaxx C40 v2
Motherboard :ASUS TUF GAMING B660M-PLUS WIFI
Ram :32 GB DDR5-RAM, Dual Channel (2x 16 GB), 5600 MHz*, Kingston Fury Beast
3,5″ 10in1 HighSpeed CardReader / 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1
SSD s`
1 x 1000 GB Samsung NVM SSD for the OS and DAW
2 x 1 000 GB Samsung SSD ´s for Samples and Tracks
Box be quiet! Pure Base 600 silver
Power: 650 W be quiet! System Power 10, 89 % Effizienz, 80 Plus Bronze
Windows 11 Home, 64 Bit
The whole system is running very silent, and until now I haven´t heard any noise coming out of the box.
but
I have to mention that I haven’t tried to load the system to its limits.
I have projects with some over 70 tracks, 2-6 FX per track and 2-3 software synths like BFD Drums 2 or BX Oberheim.
In my opinion, the disadvantages for others of such a system lie in the mainboard, because there is only one slot for
1 x PCIe 5.0 x16 slot
1 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (supports x4 mode)
1 x PCIe 4.0 x1 slot
There is also a Thunderbolt 3/4 header but no TB slot, so you need to get a thunderbolt card, if you need thunderbolt ports
The UEFI settings need some corrections to make the system run very fast with the RME Raydat.
Other than that, I can recommend this configuration, which is not the newest but very powerful.
How stable is this system? My current build is unpredictably unstable in a very annoying way. There are weeks when it crashes every single day, and sometimes several weeks go by without a single crash. I think video might sometimes have something to do with the crashes, but I haven’t found any real logic to it.
I’m seriously considering giving that pretty apple garden a try.
