Say Hello On Our Last Week Before We Move to the Subreddit!

Hey all,

I feel like playing Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” would be appropriate about now! You can help change that.

I realize that change isn’t always embraced with open arms, but I think this change, moving the conversation to a subreddit, is a cause for celebration. It enables our community to grow and thrive in ways that it wasn’t able to do here. For example, I took one of the posts I made in the LinkedMusicians subreddit and posted it in the Native Instruments subreddit and saw a dramatic spike in interaction as well as new members to our subreddit. But all of that is lost quickly if we’re not active in the subreddit.

We’ve learned a great deal about what does and doesn’t work in the past year. LinkedMusicians.com has done very well as a resource — the curated resources and tools have attracted a great deal of our traffic, while our social activity has struggled. Moving the social community part of LinkedMusicians to one of the top social media platforms on the web — and one of the ten most popular websites — can have a dramatic impact on our engagement and growth. But to succeed, we’re still dependent on our existing community. Like the old saying, nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd. Getting those first few members to comment is critical to getting the next ten, then the next one hundred, and so on.

So, let’s hear your thoughts.

• What would you like to see more of?
  I plan on growing our free resources at this site, and getting more stimulating conversations started at our subreddit.
• What do you think of the new home page re-design?
  It’s an interim step, a major redesign is in the works, but this puts our various resources front and center.
• Are you continuing the journey to the LinkedMusicians subreddit? If so, let us know. If not, it’s okay to share that too.
  I realize that while Subreddit is one of the top 10 most popular sites on the web, it still represents change and a departure for legacy forums. It’s not a big change, but it is still a change. Consider that while legacy forums are struggling to declining — none are growing- users are moving over to Reddit and Discord. But I realize that change means that some of the group won’t be coming along. The site will remain and new content will regularly be added, including curated best deals.  
  

Finally, I do plan on saving my favorite thread on the forum. It’s the thread titled, “Answer these 7 Questions to Get to Know Each Other A Little Better.” I will find a way to preserve it.

So, whatever you have to say — even if it’s just posting “hi!” — let’s hear from you. Music is about expression. To me, this is a lot more than a deal platform. I realize that is the main reason many people come here, but for me, the driving force has always been the love of music and the love of others.
