Wow, awesome!
I love when people post a code or a better deal after an original post. Of course, I like it a lot less when I see that AFTER I bought something! I’m a SonicCouture customer and made the original post on my phone, after seeing a post on Facebook. So I didn’t check my email first. So thanks! SonicCouture is on my list of favorite sample developers. Absolutely top notch.

It was over 10 years ago — maybe even 15 or so years ago — James, the co-founder of SonicCouture, contacted me for some marketing/branding advice. We spent maybe a couple of hours on the phone. Candidly, I most helped developers because it felt good to be connected to music again after tendinitis stopped me from being able to play. I didn’t charge him. I looked at it as me helping out small business people, who were almost always musicians, making stuff that I used and loved. I also really liked the idea that I could take my marketing and branding skills and help developers and influence what they were making to be more useful for me and others. I usually turned down when developers offered me NFRs (free products) because I didn’t want them to feel like I couldn’t be as critical as I want to be in my forum posts. That was the big reason. But I loved SonicCouture’s work so much, I accepted the libraries he gave me.
I found James to be a really decent, very likable person and I found his and his business partner’s story really interesting. They worked together making samples for Yamaha synths — at Yamaha corp — back in the 90s. So these are sample developers with superb credentials that go way back. I haven’t spoken with him since, I’m just a fan of their work. I love seeing developers like them succeed. Talented developers and nice people too.
