Fundamental is a sound synthesis tool combining different roots of electronic music history. Fundamental wave engine is a faithful recreation of a vintage Rohde&Schwartz vacuum tube oscillator ( having been widely used at WDR by Stockhausen )

 

In a pioneering move, sonicLAB has embedded accessible AI Large Language Model ( LLM ) into Fundamental 4, allowing for control over synthesis parameters through natural language. By using natural language prompts, the AI LLM can translate and unlock the ability to compose sonic gestures that go beyond manual control. This is the “HAL9000” component which sonicLAB has promised since v1 !

 

Prompt to AI example: Set the oscillator frequencies based the distance of the planets from the sun in our solar system. Find the other planet frequencies proportional to Mercury which is assigned to lowest frequency as 150hz.

 

Fundamental 4 shifts your role from a parameter programmer to a system designer. Instead of thinking “what value should this knob have ?” , you are thinking “what makes the structure of the sonic universe ?“. With Fundamental 4 you can control the synthesis engine based on imagination, physics, and methapor rather than just numbers. Prompt the AI with direct, emergent or abstact definitions and the generative AI will apply its interpretation to the Fundamental synthesis engine.

 

 

how does it work ?

Fundamental 4 offers the standard features of the Fundamental 3 revised and better optimised. You will require a purchased license for running the Fundamental 4. The AI LLM features on Fundamental 4 are offered with a Pay-As-You-Go system. No monthly payments, no subscriptions !

 

sonicLAB Fundamental 4 comes as a standalone app, and in VST3 and AU plugin formats for OSX and Windows. Fundamental 4 is a free update for Fundamental 3 users. They can install and start using Fundamental 4 with their existing license. A new license of Fundamental 4 costs £99 GBP. ( The currency exhange will be done automatically on the shop. ) The AI access requires tokens which you can purchase on our shop ( F4_tokens ) and costs approx. 3USD. This will grant you 500K tokens ( 150 – 200 AI prompt requests ). A new license purchase of Fundamental 4 will include 500K tokens by default. Further tokens can be purchased when needed. Users can activate their tokens anytime and they will never expire in this pay-as-you-go system.
