I’m quite certain like the other Labs libraries, it’s a very cut-down version of a paid library. The Originals Intimate Grand library — which I own and think is lovely — is very limited dynamically, with only 3 velocity layers  (I own it). I expect that this probably only has 2 velocity layers, only samples say every 3rd note, and certainly doesn’t have pedal-down samples. It will be fine for beginners, but for more demanding users, it won’t cut it. Not for a piano library, IMO.

I have not yet started using the new LABS+.  I have the old ones installed.  I have delayed installing the new version because I read months ago somewhere that there were some “issues” with the new site.

Two Questions:

1)  Are the new LABS+ stable?

2) Do they disable or interfere with the use of the older site?

 

Sorry if these questions are off topic, but I think I will get better info in the replies here on this new LinkedMusicians forum (thanks cclarry and Peter for an absolutely GREAT new forum).

I really don’t have answers to your questions, but want to say that you certainly have no need to apologize for “off topic” questions in this forum! Just like with Cakewalk Forum, the group — including yours truly — happily went off topic. As long as there’s some connection, and we’re friendly, I think it’s perfectly cool.

Regarding updating Labs, I did update to the new version several weeks ago and had no issues. I don’t subscribe to their service and have no intention of doing so in the future, and to be frank, I don’t think I’ve ever used a Labs library in a project. But I think for those who don’t have an investment in more sophisticated sample libraries like Kontakt, SoundPaint or UVI and are on a very tight budget, it’s a decent choice.
