As one person managing the design and development of this site, the maintenance, upkeep, I need to keep things efficient. Moving forward, please provide all suggestions in this thread. It enables me to have a single place instead of many threads/topics, which consume much more time.

New album soon!
We had that for a bit, but the feedback on it was negative, until after I pulled it than I had one positive response. The feedback on the current system. which replaced the blue bar system, has been overwhelmingly positive. There’s really not even any other options out there beyond the 4 or 5 we tried. This was the last option and I was pretty happy that there’s been very positive feedback on it. Are you having any issues with it or you just prefer the blue bar not read system better?

Example: I read all 5 comments in a topic. 2 Hours later people made more 10 comments. I just like to have an horizontal line marking the unread responses.

On joegyork saidHi Peter – one thing I liked about the forum that shall not be named 😉 was the Thanks emoji – mostly directed in my case to Larry of this parish – would it be feasible to have one of those – no worries if not – I’ll just use the like emoji
You would not believe how time and energy I spent researching reactions for that (we all seem to agree on wanting the thanks emoticon). I had to buy two different plugins (scripts and graphics in a package), one for the forum and one for the Groups /walls, and they are both subscription pricing that renews annually (FTR, I like the one on the Groups / walls much better; so around $70 US a year for the two; there’s a reason it looks like doing this site will cost over $2,000 a year at minimum). I can’t customize the one on for the Groups / walls, but I can customize the one for the forums (here) but it’s really not well executed by the developer. There’s is something I’ll give a try — replacing the angry emoticon with a thanks emoticon. But I’m not totally sure it will work based on what happened with the Blue thumbs up I added (note that you still see a white Like on the left and right). Still, I’ll give it a try in the next few days. If that doesn’t work, I’ll just keep my eyes open and talk to the developers I’ve gotten to know and see if I could persuade one to make it for an affordable price.

In dark mode it’s dificult do read the date of the post. 😉
I’ve got a few:
This is a small thing… If you use the heart reaction on a post, the emoticon that shows up assigned to the post is a smiley with hearts in its eyes. Would it be difficult to make it a heart instead, to match the selected reaction?

I spent a ridiculous amount of time researching and testing reaction plugins for the site. You’re referring to the one that’s on the forums. The plugin allows you to customize the reactions that post on the left, but it doesn’t change what it displays before choosing or on the right. I plan on sending the developer a message asking if he would consider a future update of the plugin that modifies what’s shown to match the user changed image. Alternatively, I can just change it back to the original image, which candidly I don’t like (hence why I replaced it with a heart).
I also want to recommend that the default image is changed to an outline that doesn’t look like a like.

Okay, everyone should know this, because it’s blowing my mind. @lamia6 keeps doing all of this amazing work on this site. Your request and even more what I stated I wish the paid reaction plugin could do — it now does. Not because the developer who made it made that happen or I suddenly learned how to code (I didn’t), but because @lamia6 read this and made it happen.
I realize that I keep making posts praising how much she’s helped on this site, but @gregjazz, you posted that, I posted that I agreed with you and was more disappointed with what that plugin with additional wish list features and was going to contact the plugin developer to request he consider my suggestions in a future update (which would probably not happen, based on the history I can see of similar ignored customer recommendations). It’s mindblowing how lamia6 does better work than the developers I’ve paid, and she’s just been doing it to be a helpful part of the community. I cannot thank her enough. So yeah, we now have what you and I hoped for, completely thanks to lamia6.

Wow, that’s awesome! It seemed like one of those deceptively difficult things to change, which is why I hesitated to bring it up. Thanks @lamia6!

I’ve got a few:
- This I’ve mentioned before, but please please find and nuke the thing that blocks middle mouse button from working on this site.
- I like the newly bolded post titles in the forum view. However, is it possible to have non-bolded thread title if there are no new posts since you last read the topic? Also, please remove the bolding from the date.
I literally just found this forum & thread (have never come out from “the forum”), so please forgive the necro-bump.
Just want to give my +1 on these.
Glad to know that I’m not alone on #1. It seems to work universally, so it surprises me that it doesn’t work here (must be something blocking it, right?).
Re: #2, I can’t remember if I’ve been here when you wrote this, but it must’ve been implemented, because I definitely remember that I used to be able to browse the posts very effortlessly (i.e.: as per your suggestion).
Unfortunately, this has been revoked (which I’ve been given the reason for it). Still can’t get used to it, & had to resort to some css formatting to help my eyes with the current U & R badges (for me, it’s too similar in dark mode, & I prefer dark than light [although it might have better U & R distinction]).
With any luck, there will be solutions which work for people with different vision ability.
Now, for my suggestion for real:
Clicking U badge works for threads that I’ve read but have new comments in it (i.e.: it opens the thread & brings me to the 1st unread comment).
However, clicking U on threads that I’ve never read brings me to the end of the thread (i.e.: to the white empty box where one types replies). I think it should bring me to top of the thread (i.e.: the 1st post).

I read both of your comments and I’m going to PM you. The issue you’re having with the Unread threads, is that something that just started happening or has that always worked that way for you? I haven’t had anyone report that before (if anyone else reading this has experienced the same issue, please comment below; I’m going to try and recreate the issue).

I don’t know if this is at all related, but it seems to be an “unread” status issue. I mentioned to you that I missed the “activity” left menu, and now you have the “Latest Post Activity” which is supposed to be the same, but ever since it was implemented, the first thread I get is the 24 day old Open Mic “Origin Story” post. I expect it to pop when there is a new post added, but there has not been for 9 days and yet every time I have used “Activity”, the original Origin” post plus several old responses are at the top of the list. I now have muscle memory scrolling a few screens down before I look 😛 Namaste!
@swijaya The Forum now is back to showing BOLD topic titles for Unread topics and regular text topic titles for read topics. I just spent a couple of hours of dealing with the conflicts that resulted in that going away. It took custom code to fix it.
@bluescat The Activity and Latest Post Activity menu item take you to the identical URL. I only revised the name to make it more clear to people what that link was for. It’s working properly. The reason that you’re seeing an older post at the top is that I pinned it (AKA stickied it). That’s intentional. The posts below it are unpinned.
