System Emails are Now Operational

NOTE: I sent this through the messaging system, but I realize that not everyone here checks their messages regularly, so I’m also putting this on the Forum.

The email services are one of the most important — and costly — parts of running this community. Even with the small community we now have, more than 7,500 system emails were sent over one month for our various system emails (e.g., registrations, password resets, alerts, etc.). I had signed up with an email (SMTP) service provider a couple of months ago to handle sending the system emails that I thought I got a great deal on to save considerable money over alternatives. They quickly turned out to be awful and twice stopped sending emails out for two weeks or more when I decided I needed to end the contract and make a switch. Okay, I listened to the advice of an influencer — I should have known better. He was interested in the profit he made, not providing an honest, unbiased opinion, of course. And he’s a web developer, so I expected he would care about the quality of his recommendations. It turns out, not so much. Live and learn.

The very good news is that, as of today, we’re now using one of the most reliable email services in the business, Amazon. The same service Amazon itself uses, as well as well-known brands like Netflix, Duolingo, and FedEx, You should start seeing emails from LinkedMusicians Alerts (from no-reply@linkedmusicians.com — yes, there’s a Beatles’ song title in the address!). If you don’t, it’s still a good idea to check your junk mail folder and whitelist any emails from us, that way your email service knows that the sender is legit, and not spam.

Finally, I want to thank @musicman, who was super helpful to me in getting this setup. Amazon’s service is built for IT pros, not marketing guys, so having musicman guiding me through this made a huge difference and I am very grateful.
