The Move From LinkedMusicians Forum/OPEN MIC to the LM Subreddit

I thought I’d do another try at explaining our upccoming move to the LinkedMusicians subreddit, the reasons why we’re doing it, and why it is best for our community:

• The subreddit will provide accelerated community growth: Moving our social hubs to Reddit puts LinkedMusicians in front of a massive, built-in audience of composers and producers, making it much easier to attract new talent and grow our influence. We would never be able to grow our community as fast as we can at Reddit. Reddit is one of the most popular sites on the Web for good reason. It goes far beyond what legacy forums like this one, KVR, VI Control, Gearspace and others can do. Yes, it takes a short while to get used to, but not long at all. I find it far more exciting and I built this site.
• I can focus on innovation, not administration: By offloading the technical “low-level” tasks of forum maintenance—like managing complex plugin updates and server troubleshooting—I can spend my time on high-level strategy and creating more “Insolvency Hubs” and comparative analyses.
• I’ll be more available to engage and enjoy LinkedMusicians with all of you all directly — admittedly, this may matter more to me than anyone else!
• Superior Social Tools: Reddit offers a “Best in Class” mobile and desktop experience that is inherently more stable and user-friendly than a self-hosted forum, allowing for better discussions and easier sharing of “Open Mic” content.
• Significant Resource Efficiency: Running a high-performance forum on a managed server requires significant and costly resources (even more, because I am a strategist and not an iT pro, I have to pay for managed services, making our monthly costs A LOT higher) . This move significantly reduces overhead costs, ensuring that more of our resources go directly into member giveaways and community projects rather than “keeping the lights on”. Hosting just the non-social content on this site requires a lot less server resources, so I’ll spend t a lot less money once our contract ends in several months.
• A “Non-Toxic” Global Stage: Reddit’s moderation tools are vastly superior to what we’re not using. That will be a major factor as we grow.
