      Received the following email this morning
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Transcribe! version 9.42.0 is now available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
      The Windows version requires 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. We will keep version 8.80.1 available for those few people still running 32-bit Windows 10.
      The Mac version requires macOS 13 (Ventura), 14 (Sonoma), or 15 (Sequoia) on Intel or Apple Silicon. We will keep earlier Transcribe! versions available for people running earlier versions of macOS.
      The Linux version is 64-bit only. We will keep version 8.80 available for people running 32-bit Linux.
      It is free to existing users : it will recognise your license key and you shouldn’t need to enter it again.
      To download it:
      Please let me know of any problems you find.
      Changes:
      – The Tuning page of the Fx window now displays a message when tuning alterations are made, showing the change in terms of Hz, e.g. “440Hz becomes 466.2Hz” or whatever. This means that if you know that the recording uses say A=442 and you want to convert it to A=440 then you can do this. Of course you could always do this, but now Transcribe! does the arithmetic for you. The adjustment is still in cents (hundredths of a semitone) so you probably won’t get exactly the Hz you want, but can always get within 1/200th of a semitone which is close enough for any purpose I can think of.
      By the way, when making very small adjustments like this, I recommend checking the “Analog lock” box. This means that the speed will also change slightly, but it avoids any artefacts that may be produced when changing speed and pitch independently.
      – We now allow in-place editing of all the text fields in the lower toolbar (except track length of course). This means you can set speed, tuning, and volume by typing numbers there if you want, and also set the current position and selection by typing minutes and seconds.
      See Help – Getting Started – The Transcription Window for more info. The “At” and “Selected” boxes on the Misc page of the Fx window have gone – no longer needed.
      – In the Video Viewer you can now adjust the vertical placement of subtitles – you can align to the top instead of the bottom of the window, and you can specify a vertical offset. It’s in Video Viewer – View menu – Select Subtitles.
      – We can now handle mp3 files longer than 2 gigasamples, which is about 13.5 hours at 44k sampling rate.
      – Mac: the keyboard shortcut Command+~ (tilde key) usually cycles between open windows within a given app. It didn’t used to work in Transcribe! but now it does.
      – Mac: fixed a problem which happened if you set your system language to Persian/Farsi.
      – Many other small tweaks such as improving the clarity of messages, things like that.
      Regards,
          I don’t remember ever seeing a sale.
          I bought a license in 2011. In that time, it’s been regularly updated and they’ve never asked users to pay for an upgrade in those 14 years.
          I almost wish there was a donate button on their website.
            I don’t recall ever seeing a sale on this.
            I bought it a couple of years ago after comparing the alternatives on a particular guitar shredding video. YMMV but with the clip I tried it had the most ‘clarity’ on the individual notes at slower speeds + the video stays connected.
              Thanks for the confirmation.
              That explains why my Google alert never trips.
