Would you like to have an email digest of forum topics?

Our “Virtual & Physical Music Gear Deals” subforum gets the majority of attention at LinkedMusicians. And we — primarily me — post a lot of deals there every day. Subsequently, I’ve received feedback from a few people that they unsubscribed to the email notifications for the subforum because so many deals are posted. There is a solution. However, like many things we desire, it comes at a cost. Not a big cost, but the costs have added up and reached a few thousand dollars for this site pretty quickly (consider that there’s a website builder, a theme,  lots of small plugins, security, image compression, etc.) that add up. I have found a developer who has scripts (three plugins, actually) that would allow us to offer an email digest, similar to what we have for OPEN MIC (which is a different system).

This would allow our members to subscribe to a daily digest where they’d have a clickable link for each topic title sent to them.  Personally, this seems like the most convenient way to stay up on things. The scripts’ subscription is on sale for $120 for the first year and around $126 for each subsequent year (this covers updates and troubleshooting). The reality is, I now have around a dozen plugins/contracts like this for the site, so the costs are adding up, not even including web hosting and email service to send these emails. I’m going to add this, if we can fund it from the community. So, if we can raise enough to cover the costs, which are around $120 for the first year, I’ll add the functionality.  Now, since we’ve launched, we’ve had a total of around $60 in contributions, so that is a pretty tough goal. But going forward, I’m only going to be adding functionality that is funded. I have enough costs with the existing hosting, email, plugins, and service contracts. I want to add some other capabilities, but the site has gone far, far over what I budgeted for it (around 3x) and will be looking to the community to fund any further enhancements.
