Would you like to have daily email summaries of deals posted at LinkedMusicians?

I found a developer who offers a solution that I can use to send out daily summary emails of deals. Basically, that would mean, say, at 7PM CST everyone subscribed to the email would receive an email featuring the linked topics of all the deals posted that day so far. The tools (plugins) to do that cost roughly around $200 a year (it’s on sale right now for around $200, but it’s an annual subscription, like a lot of the plugins I use on this site).

I think that the daily email summaries are probably one of the most significant functionalities we can add for the forum. They already exist for OPEN MIC — that’s a much more sophisticated, social media portion of the site, but usage is very low and I think the forum is a much better place to post deals. To those whose careers aren’t in technology, the reason subscriptions are so important is that (1) there are a lot of scripts for a complex site like this, and everything has to co-exist peacefully, and (2) security vulnerabilities. I realize that some folks here are developers and IT professionals and could probably write scripts / plugins that I pay for, but I don’t have those skills. I’m a marketing strategist and small business owner, consequently, I need to pay developers to do this work and to maintain it.

Okay, after some conversations with a number of people whose opinions and expertise I respect, I’ve decided that having daily email digests for our forum is too important to go without, and I’m going buy this tool.

When I set up this site, which is a fairly complex site — it’s a content management system, social media platform, with a forum, and a blog, that features dynamic content from various sources, and sends out SMTP emails — I didn’t realize that the forum software didn’t have the capability to send daily digest emails. I assumed it would be a basic part of the forum (I know, never assume!). It really should have that functionality built-in. So finding out that the only option is paying a developer around $200 a year when I’ve already invested around $3,000 in the site, seemed a bit much. @lamia6, who is experienced building and maintaining these kind of sites, thought that the developer’s price is really high, but the reality I face is, it’s the only option for this platform that does this function that is actively maintained (that’s critical).

I’d love your thoughts on this. I would hope that I could have this enabled before the end of the month, or at least, by the first week of November.
