I write a lot of transcriptions for my classical guitar ensemble class, but still can’t tell what makes for good ensemble piece until AFTER I complete the transcription. So, it takes about 5 pieces until I get one that’s really nice. The rest are just sort of nice,
I also use taxi.com to get original pieces into libraries. Here are the stats for 2024:
# of requests I’ve received: 1374
# of submissions I made: 19
– I need to learn how to write rock or orchestral pieces to increase this. I currently only write Americana/acoustic pieces which, apparently, is only about 1.5% of the requests.
# of submissions that the taxi screeners approved: 11
– anything over a 50% approval rating is considered great. It means my writing meets the technical and creative requirements of the request.
# of licenses signed by the end client: 1
– I consider this pretty lousy (1 out of 11). It means not many people like what I write. There’s just no accounting for taste.1 Comment
If you’re game, you should share your music in the LM song sharing forum. I plan on putting up a LinkedMusicians playlist later this year including members’ music. I want this community to not just be deals but a place where we encourage one another in our musical endeavors. I’m planning to include a player with a playlist of our members’ music that people can stream when they’re perusing the site.
