It was at least a decade and a half ago when I became familiar with singer/songwriter Reid Jamieson. He’s an incredibly talented artist from Vancouver. He has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard in rock and he’s a very talented songwriter. I might have learned of him through Wilco, as they are huge fans, and some band members worked with him…Read More

When I first heard Reid’s music, I bought every CD he had. I compared his talent to Jeff Buckley. It’s a testimony to how screwed up the industry is that he isn’t a name every rock musician knows. I try to do my part and tell others about him.

I’m so sorry to see this news. Billy Joel has canceled all scheduled concert performances due to being diagnosed with a brain disorder that has led to “problems with hearing, vision and balance.”

Through his career, critics continuously panned his music as schmaltz. I find he’s one of the greatest American pop songwriters of all time, up there with the best around the world (Lennon/McCartney, Paul Simon, Carole King…).

I am caught between these two names for the official LinkedMusicians stuffed bear. I want a name that's silly and fun -- and of course ties into the LinkedMusicians brand. Linkey does that, although it might lack enthusiasm. Shredward Van Fluffen is ridiculous, and I love that although I actually was never a Van Hellen fan -- it's simply the ridiculousness of it. I promise to include this bear in future photos and video. What do you think? If you have more suggestions, please post 'em! FTR, the name will only be shown on the listing, not the bear itself.

Which name do you prefer for the official LinkedMusicians stuffed bear?

I’ve turned to ChatGPT and the ideas are as ridiculous as the ones that made my wife laugh. Here’s some examples:

      Bearoncé
Teddy Crescendo – Builds up the cute and the volume.
Mezzobearte – A pun on mezzo-forte, meaning moderately loud.
Bachbearato – Inspired by bel canto and Bach, with a hint of class.
      Furrmato

ChatGPT had a bunch and I pieced them together for this one:

      Shredward Van Flufflen

I love it, even though I was never a Van Halen fan. Because it’s funny. It’s ridiculous. But we need more suggestions. We’ve only begun this journey.

This is really a throwaway-suggestion. But depending on how big it is (I can’t really tell from the photo) ‘Ursa Major’ or ‘Ursa Minor’ (which could also indicate whether it likes ‘happy’ or ‘sad’ music).

Thanks for being part of this important mission for LinkedMusicians. Keep those name ideas coming. I feel we’re on the cusp of a breakthrough. It would be unbearable if we were to stop short of that. (No, puns are not beneath me; I fully embrace them).

I love that name @bluesdog. My concern is that it’s too close to Chuck Berry’s name that it would invite an action from Chuck Berry’s estate and Printify would likely reject it. So if we went with it, we would need to do a modification to make it more of a parody. Something like Churck Bearsly. But I absolutely love the name.

@antler How about Bearsa Major to go with the silly bear pun idea? Granted, yes, it’s ridiculously stupid — I want the name to be amusing. To be fun. To be a pun or a play on words related to music or an artist. Although it’s lame, an example would be Bearthoven.

      Bear names:
Beartok (play on Bartok, or just call him Bartok, or maybe Bela or Bela the Bear)
Bearoque or Bearoke (play on baroque)
Hugo (lots of musicians named Hugo, plus it looks like a Hugo)

      Linkey?

It would be a tie-in with the name of the community. Oh well, that’s all I have for today. Keep posting ideas! I’ll do the same.

Cool. Linkey Bearay full name? (similar to Link Wray kinda)

I actually wasn’t even thinking of Link Wray — hahaha. I was more inspired by Homer Simpson and his stupid naming of things and animals, like Stompy the elephant. But if we added a last name, I’d want it to really add something to the mix, and while I loved the ChatGPT suggestion of Shredward Van Huffen (ift gave me around 100 other suggestions,…Read More

My kids are huge Star Wars fans. I felt kinda bad that this refers to them as nerds. But it’s all in fun. My kids know that I love them — and I also love Brubeck’s music — and Joe Morello was one of my favorite jazz drummers. I met and got to hang out with Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson, and never met Joe, but his drumming always connected with me.

This Day in Music (from the LM Home Page; okay, technically this was yesterday!)
Louis Armstrong became the oldest person in UK pop chart history to have a number 1 hit with “What a Wonderful World” at age 69 on Apr. 24, 1968. Pretty impressive!

I don’t recall being blown away by an artist like I am with Madison Cunningham since Jeff Buckley. I think @gregjazz who’s responsible for me being aware of her several years back when he was preparing to sample a rubber neck guitar and forwarded me her excellent song, “Pin It Down.” If the world got music right, Madison would be selling out…Read More

“Why does music have such a profound effect on us? It may be that listening to favorite music activates the brain’s opioid receptors, according to a new study from Turku PET Centre in Finland, which used MRI and PET scan technology to look at the relationship between the density of opioid receptors and brain activity when listening t…Read More

Madison Cunningham is an amazing talent. She represents one of the times that the Grammy’s got it right. Her name is up there with Jeff Buckley and Kevin Gilbert, IMO. Her voice, her playing (she plays guitar, bass, piano, and drums) are simply wonderful.

As people age, they’re prone to keep listening to the same old music and close their…Read More
