RIP, Jack DeJohnette, one of my all-time favorite drummers and from my hometown of Chicago. I had the opportunity to see Jack perform many years ago and even to talk with him for a bit and let him know how much his drumming inspired me. I even shared with him that when I was 16, I got to hang out with Buddy Rich, but meeting him was a greater thrill for me, because his playing really moved me deeply (Buddy Rich was a brilliant drummer, but I always found his playing with a band to be show offish and lacked soul; DeJohnette had skill, style, and soul).
