Google generative AI, based on it’s examining BFDDrums.com site, had this result when I asked, “when is bfd 4 expected to be released?”:
“As of today, there is no official announcement regarding a release date for BFD 4, and no concrete information about when it might be expected; developers have not publicly stated any plans for a new BFD version beyond updates for the current BFD 3 iteration”
Consequently, considering InMusic’s terrible track record, and especially their track record with BFD3, which they purchased, I believe, more than a decade ago on version 3 and haven’t made any improvements big enough to be worthy of calling it BFD3. It looks a lot like this product is merely a cash cow, a product they’re getting as much money as possible from with no intent of a serious future for it. Drew is the product lead and responded to me at Cakewalk Forum last year making it appear that a BFD4 would have been here long before now. I would recommend that if you’re not happy with BFD3 being the end of this product’s life, you probably shouldn’t purchase BFD3. Just my instincts as there are no facts from InMusic, which isn’t a good sign either after neglecting the product so long. I found BFD Player is nice for a free product, but nowhere close to the same league as ezDrummer or AD2 in any respect, sonic quality, mixing capabilities, effects, user experience…
Here’s the top result, from the BFD corporate forum with Drew answering the questions:

Good price. Too bad none of the expansion packs are on sale. Even if it’s a dead-end product, I like how it sounds and wouldn’t mind investing a few more bucks in it.
Not sure how different BFD3 Player is from the “normal” BFD3, but I consider “normal” BFD3 a higher fidelity product than AD2. It sounds nicer to my ears. The GUI is definitely not new, but the samples are still gorgeous. The problems people have had are in the past. I’ve had no issues for several years now.
Studio One, Windows, RME UFX, Yamaha MSP7

A developer friend of mine bailed on BFD3 a few years ago, he said he found it a hassle to do mixing and outputs — I don’t recall completely,. But, of course, as a former drummer, at this price it’s even tempting me just to use the included kits. I love SD3 and I liked AD2 and I find both easy to use. Have you used either of those where you could do a comparison with regards to mixing in the plugin and handling outputs for BFD3?
BFD Player is completely different than BDF3. I discussed it with Drew last year. I really like Drew, but he’s clearly stuck at a company that’s neglecting to appropriately fund of these software product lines. I thought BFD Player sounded and was designed in an amateurish manner. Drew said that all of those kits were newly recorded just for BFD Player and I think he played the role of engineer — it’s clearly a low budget operation.

I bought into like 75% of all add on packs for BFD3 as well as some 3rd party packs.
After InMusic took over nearly all 3rd party packs could not be located/authorized/loaded and/or some vendors just dropped the product from their offerings.
I more or less walked away from using it after I maybe did two songs using BFD3.

I was going to comment on @peter ‘s triple post as well. I was wondering if he had run out of thing to say and was triple posting to increase his word count. There, I have used up one of my jokes at peter’s expense coupons.
This would be a clever signature if I could think of one.

I take so much crap for my long posts, and I realize I totally deserve it. The sad part? I’m actually trying to make shorter posts. I did jokingly talk about this with my son when building this site and said, “I write long posts; I don’t want to read them.” True story.
