Personally, I didn’t publish it because, well, you already know my rule regarding some devs. Then I knew it would appear here anyway, and @ralfrobert was really fast, I like the community spirit we all are building here. I agree it’s an insane deal—just not my cup of caffeine. And as you said, the reverbs are worth it, I’d cave exclusively because of them. But well, I’m in a hardware phase now, so my recent RE-201 machine is enough for me. Sorry if all that may sound like bragging—that’s not my intention, honestly. The most important thing is that it should make you happy. If that’s the case, what’s not to like? Just please, please don’t forget to actually use them

I’d really like to have Peter here.  I know he got roughed up over at the cakewalk forum on occasion, but it was good to have someone on the inside of IK listening to us, as well as being an intercessor when someone needed it.

I checked my Facebook PMs just now and saw, by coincidence that Peter Toriello had actually found out about LinkedMusicians before I had a chance to reach out to him! He asked me to register him, and I’m going to do that now. Peter and I go way back to the early 00s and KVR, long before he joined IK. We’ve had many hilarious chats. So I don’t see him as an IK rep, I see him as a friend who is a musician who currently works for IK. So I’m very happy to have him aboard. I’ll start reaching out to developer friends more after I open up the registration to the public, which will be happening this month — for real this time! 🙂

I know and respect your point of view and you can always freely express it here. Hey, you have mod access! I think you know that I greatly appreciate you and even when we see things differently (which is normal), I will still respect your point of view.

Now, to the greater LinkedMusicians community, I don’t think it was apparent at the Cakewalk Forum where Peter often had to put up with some pretty hostile folks, but Peter Toriello has a killer sense of humor and went to college for music — so he’s not just an IK employee, he’s a musician first. He scaled back his sense of humor in that forum and focused more on helping people, but I hope he doesn’t scale back his sense of humor here, as I really enjoy Peter’s sense of humor and personality.

And just a heads up to everyone, be honest with every developer, share your true opinions and experiences — positive and negative — just treat people with respect, and hopefully, be kind. I’m very fond of Peter. I’ve known him for more than 20 years and consider him a friend. That pre-dates him working for IK. I like and use IK stuff, but even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t hold it against Peter, who is a really good — and super funny — guy.

Oh no, one of the things I DON’T enjoy about buying from Sweetwater online is that an intrusive salesperson will call you. Good thing I didn’t provide my mobile number. I already have a voicemail.

Here’s my tip for getting rid of telemarketing people calling unsolicited (in the US there is something called a DO NOT CALL registry the government maintains and if you register your number, companies are forbidden from calling you on that number unless you have provided your consent in advance). It doesn’t apply to Sweetwater, but I thought I’d use this occasion to share it.

I’ve tried all sorts of methods to get off the phone with a telemarketer when caller ID doesn’t make it clear that the call is from a telemarketer (because I usually would not intentionally pick up a call from an unsolicited telemarketer who is breaking the law by calling my number). So, a few years ago, I found the perfect solution — and it entertains my family too. So, I’ll cut to the chase and give you a typical scenario of a call:

TELEMARKETER: Hello is this Mr. [my real last name, completely butchered or “Is this the person living at [my home address].]

ME: Ehh….caio? {stated in the most unathentic, over the top terrible, Adam Sandler inspired faux Italian accent.]

TELEMARKETER: Hello?

ME: Ehhhhhhh…caio??????????

TELEMARKETER: Hello?

ME: Eh…CAIO!!!

TELEMARKETER: Hello? You don’t speak English?

ME: [Completely drops accent, uses regular American speaking voice.] No, not a word of it.

TELEMARKETER: [HANGS UP.]

Works every time. Another script:

TELEMARKETER: Hello, is this…

ME: Chicago Foresonics team, agent Smith speaking.

TELEMARKETER: Hello, is this [yada, yada, yada….]

ME: You mean the deceased? What is your relationship with him? Are you a friend? A relative? When did you last see him?

TELEMARKETER: [Hangs up.]

 

Yes, I have actually been doing this for years and it’s turned an annoyance into family entertainment. The more over the top the better. I have also gotten the telemarketers to laugh when they realize what I’m doing is not serious.

BTW, Peter did confirm with me that the $29.99 US price was due to an error. The price should have been $99 US.

I did think it was a crazy good price — that’s why I couldn’t pass it up even though I’ve been trying not to spend after going overboard late last year with Black Friday and Christmas deals. It turns out that starting up an online community related to making music and featuring deals on music gear isn’t the best thing to do when you’re trying to rein in your spending. Who would have known?

Insane! I would have gotten it, but my drive is actually full. I’ve uninstalled everything related to IKMultimedia due to low space availability, but T-Racks plugins are one of the best plugins and you don’t have to be constantly online to use them! And for $ 29.99? For sure that was a fortune’s glitch, congrats to whom they’ve got it! I’ve got Mixbox for that price a while ago, so T-Racks Max is insane for that price. For me, unfortunately, this deal means a big pack on my drive, and I’m in the process of cutting down the plugins that I install and use, so I had to skip.
