Despite me being an atheist my second favourite quote is by Sibelius “Music is, for me, like a beautiful mosaic which God has put together. He takes all the pieces in his hand, throws them into the world, and we have to recreate the picture from the pieces.”

To keep the ball rolling – not a meme but my favourite musical quote – Vaughan Williams said about his very different & spiky 4th Symphony ””I don’t know whether I like it, but it’s what I meant!”
I love it!

joegyork replied to the topic Soundpaint Duduk – gorgeous in the forum Virtual & Physical Music Gear Deals
Thanks Peter – I should clarify I didn’t buy the 3 Duduks instrument just listened to the demo. It was ok but I think even Troels admitted that it capture the heart of the instrument whilst Duduk Virtuoso definitely does. I’ll hang off for a while and see if any deal appears in due course 🙂

Not specifically a deal but a wonderful sounding instrument. I was a bit disappointed with their previous 3 Duduks release but this is astonishing and is tempting me very much. The duduk is my very favourite instrument. $50 – haven’t checked the £ price yet

joegyork replied to the topic Brand Sentiment Analysis Cakewalk, Sonar and Next in the forum Sentiment Analysis of Users From Forums & Social Media Sites
Interesting – thanks Peter – I must admit I won’t even consider Sonar until they put out a perpetual license – that seems to be increasingly unlikely. I’m sticking with Cakewalk until it breaks! I can’t justify a monthly sub or a high purchase price for a perpetual licence and would likely look for cheaper options

Another great Show of Hands song that moves me to tears when sung by thousands of voices at a folk festival

I’m really looking forward to seeing the outstanding Canadian singer / songwriter James Keelaghan at the Black Swan Folk Club here in York, England in a few weeks time. His song ‘Cold Missouri Waters’ is possibly the most moving song I have ever heard and he has plenty more up to the same standard. Check him out – he’s a great performer too!…Read More

Cool. I wasn’t aware of James Keelaghan and his music before today.
Now, I know you probably think all I do is listen to rock and anything with loud drums (Animal from the Muppets is my hero, it’s true!), but I love folk rock. My father’s favorite band when I was a kid was SImon and Garfunkle, and I quickly became a fan of the great songs. This…Read More-
Another songwriter well worth listening to is Richard Shindell – this is one of his best songs – also covered by the magnificent English folk duo Show of Hands – check out their Witness CD

That song, “Santiago,” is lovely! I really like it a lot. That’s my favorite of the bunch. I’ll share this with my wife, I’m sure she’ll love it too. So, you succeeded in doing what I desired for this GROUP — to expose each other to new music and hopefully, with our minds and ears open, we’ll discover artists and music that is new and special to us.

joegyork replied to the topic If You Could Only Listen to 1 Artist for the Rest of Your Life, Who Would It Be? in the forum ALL THINGS MUSIC
It would probably have to be Vaughan Williams for me though closely followed by Sibelius, Pink Floyd and Home Service ( an English folk / rock / brass band formed in the 70’s and resurrected over the last few years – the original version was led by my favourite male vocalist ever, John Tams, who is also a very lovely man. They only have a limited…Read More

Interesting discussion – I had no idea Syntronik was discontinued either – I got Syntronik 2 on a Group Buy a while back for around £35 so not a massive investment but I would be sad to see it lost (not that I have done anything meaningful with it as my composing has been pretty much on hold since then due to limited time and even more limited…Read More

I think Cat Mode actually has a future. It wasn’t until the demo of cat mode that I realised it was an April Fool – it was still 31 March here in the UK so I wasn’t ready for it! I thought Troels had lost his mind!

joegyork replied to the topic Interesting News From Crow Hill! in the forum Virtual & Physical Music Gear Deals
I have a lot of time for Crow Hill but I agree that there would have been easier and more transparent ways to have a sale – unless I missed it there was no way of seeing what the discount was until you posted the code and they even made that difficult by not providing it in a format you could copy and paste (well I couldn’t!)
I suspect they are…Read More

Agreed – I had a very quick run through some of the sounds last night – the Cor Anglais is rather nice and is often an instrument ignored by other free orchestras – it is also one of my favourites. Solo cello sounded good too
