Sabbath (and Tony Iommi in particular) is without a doubt my all-time favorite and most influential band. There’s so much more to the band than what a lot of people give them credit for. I honestly believe that every heavy rock band and (obviously) every metal band has either been directly or indirectly influenced by Sabbath. I’d put them as one of the most influential band of all time. And Ozzy’s melodies played a big part in that.
It’s funny, I’ve always loved Ozzy, but he’s the last guy I listen to in Sabbath or his solo band. But he was unique and was one of the 4 guys who created an entire genre that still inspires me to this day so he will always have my respect.
I’m just happy he stuck around long enough for the last concert 3 weeks ago before he had to go. I spent the entire day watching the live feed smiling.
1I got the Imperial Electric Piano for half price.
Soul, Blues, & Jazz on a Wurli or Rhodes is my groove.
Good call. That one is really nice.
3It’s funny, a few months ago I tried SonicPass for a month and didn’t get along with Falcon at all. I wanted to like it, but it just wasn’t working for me. The sound was there but the workflow was too much. I watched a few of the new 3.1 videos and something told me to gave SonicPass another shot today (I figured it’s safer to lose $24 bucks than it is $150).
This time it all made sense! Not nearly as daunting as the first run through. I spent all day playing with it and I’m pretty blown away.
2If it causes any issues or conflicts, please don’t worry about it, really.
Here’s an example of what I was thinking: If I load up the new “Latest Topics” link, I was hoping it would filter out the topics I’ve already read since….technically….. it’s not new to me anymore. But now I’m thinking that’s probably more of a personalized filter setting on some super expensive plugin than a global aggregator for everyone on the site. I guess I was looking for more of a “new since your last visit” kinda thing. But this addition as it is now is fantastic so please don’t worry about it.
As it is now, Latest Topics pulls up…. the Latest Topics….as it should. So thank you.
Haven’t been here for a few days but I am absolutely LOVING that there’s a “Latest Topics” link now. I’d love to see a “Mark Topics Read” button on that page too but I can definitely live without it. This was on my “must have” list with any forum…..so… great job Peter.
As someone who checks in from time to time at work, this is such a great feature so I’m not jumping all over the place trying to catch up…. or just bailing all together because it’s too difficult. Really helpful to see everything in one place.

1. What country do you live in?
USA, just outside of Washington, D.C.2. What musical instrument(s) do you play and when did you start playing?
Guitar primarily but more into synths and samplers as time goes by. Started back in 1981 or ’82 I think?3. Do you sing?
Pffft, not even in the shower. You’re welcome.4. What level of experience do you have with audio engineering?
I’m fairly accomplished, but this is all a hobby for me so I’m nowhere near the level of a lot of others.5. What genres of music do you play?
Metal, post-rock, rock, blues, and trippy ambient stuff.6. What are some of the musical artists and music that inspire you?
Black Sabbath, My Sleeping Karma, Rush, Sepultura, tons of classic metal bands, Satriani, Hendrix, SRV, New Model Army, R.E.M, and tons of others.7. Do you do music as a hobby, semi-professionally, or professionally? If you’re a hobbyist did you once do music professionally or semi-professionally?
Had a killer little band back in college that was gaining momentum before we all went in different directions. Haven’t had the time since then so now it’s just a hobby… and an expensive one at that. One thing I’ve learned in the last few years is that I LOVE tweaking stuff. Just as much as playing, really. Experimenting, learning. Back when I was in bands, I realized that I loved the process of creating more than performing so it makes sense. It’s the discovery that fascinates me more than the presentation.BONUS QUESTION
Do you have any musical goals you hope to accomplish?
Just have fun. I do this for myself. Hence my screen name…. this is a release for me. That’s it. No grandiose dreams, just doing what I love.12 -
