I just wanted to give an update in case anyone wondered what happened. I was maniacally putting up deals. Then I signed up for the demo of Musio. Started playing Piano in Blue, within a few minutes the pain in my right wrist was very bad and I’ve now been in pain for several hours shooting through my right wrist and upper arm.
This is the reality of the tendinitis that stopped me from being a musician. I am typing on my phone right now, which is a lot less painful than using a mouse (and I iuse a special trackball mouse, but everything is painful right now, even being stationary. So it’s ice and ibuprofen.
I hope things will be better by tomorrow, but I really don’t know. But I will get back, I just need to give it time to heal.
I did like Musio, although I didn’t see presets. I assume that there are presets for the various libraries, but they weren’t apparent. If anyone knows the answer, if there are presets and how to find them,, I’d love to know.

Musio presets- Ain’t none.
Long answer- They have “Racks” which let you store the settings of multiple sample-sets (or just one), but there is not much to tweak. It is a pretty bare-bones sample player with simple effects (not user add-able), and so far I have not seen any factory “racks”. A lot of instruments will have a bunch of articulations that you can stack in a rack, but Piano in Blue is a single multisampled instrument with a reverb. You can adjust/bypass effects, but you can’t add them.

Thanks, Brian. I suspected that might be the case.
While the library sounds good, it doesn’t have that tone and magic of the demo songs for the Kontakt version that sounded a lot like the piano sound from the iconic Miles Davis album that inspired the library. So color me disappointed on that front. If my heart wasn’t set on that, I certainly wouldn’t be disappointed with Musio. I also loaded two Tina Guo libraries and thought that they played and sounded lovely. It’s hard to say no for that price, but that piano definitely didn’t have the “Kind of Blue” sound in the Kontakt version demos. That’s a let down.

I agree. I think effects can go a long way in setting the character of a sampled instrument, I I kind of doubt that Musio will ever come close to Kontakt in that department unless they license a lot of code (or dedicate a crazy amount of time re-inventing the wheels). Take the advice my dear Dad gave me when I was 13. Rest the wrist, boy!
I do hope you get better, and that the pain becomes more manageable

Thanks guys.
This is just life with tendinitis, nothing surprising. I thought I should share what’s going on in case someone wondered why my posting suddenly slowed down. I just need to rest my right wrist/tendons. I’m just tapping this out on my phone which is a lot less stress on the tendons than using a mouse and computer keyboard. I, no doubt, will still do some posting. There’s a ridiculous amount of deep discounted deals right now. I’m sure that there will be some surprises for the actual Black Friday, but I think most developers have simply started early and won’t be doing much more for the actual Black Friday or Cyber Monday .

Sorry to hear about the health problems. Wrist pain sucks.
If you haven’t already, I’d recommend trying out a vertical mouse.
With a normal mouse, most people use their wrist to flick the mouse around whilst keeping their arm relatively still. Which is supposedly the wrong way to do it. Instead, you’re supposed to move the mouse more with your arm whilst keeping your wrist still.
With a vertical mouse you’re not constantly pressing your wrist against a flat surface either. If you’re doing really basic office work and not aiming to be the sharpest shooter in Counter Strike 2, it shouldn’t take too much time to adjust.
For any creative, I’d also recommend picking up the book ‘Drawing Stronger’. Whilst it being aimed at illustrators and whatnot, it’s general in nature and worth a read for anyone slumped over their computers: https://www.amazon.com/Draw-Stronger-Self-Care-Cartoonists-Artists/dp/1941250238
sorry to hear this, Peter, and hope you get better soon! The pain you’re dealing with sounds excruciating. As for Musio, The lack of presets may also be one of my other main gripes (which I honestly forgot about) outside of not having room mic control yet. That said, with Musio being my only full orchestral library outside of a few random genre-specific collections, I’ve gotten so used to modifying the sound with plugins (after bouncing it), that I completely lost sight of the preset aspect. That said, I know what you mean about the “magic” not being there. Definitely a valid consideration when comparing to kontakt.
Apologies for not mentioning something about presets in my post on the Musio thread, since I’m realizing it’s a pretty big piece of the puzzle for many folks. Glad to hear you’re into the TG cello though, as am I, just hope that there is plenty of value left to be released in future updates or Musio 2.
@Kirean Thanks for the tips. My physical therapist many years ago had me switch to a track ball mouse. I haven’t tried a vertical mouse. I’ll research it.
My son is actually studying to be a physical therapist. So I’m hoping I can get some free therapy at some point in the future!

On the topic of Musio, down the road, I’ll be adding the capability for us all to give reviews and ratings, so that when people are researching libraries and plugins they can easily find what the community members who have it think. We’ll also have ratings on the quality of work, support and service of developers.
My take from playing Piano and Blue and two Tina Guo libraries is that it’s disappointing that there aren’t presets, but still, it’s an amazing value and I think it is the best value in the sample library development world today. Hmmm…Now, consider that I’ve consulted in this industry. You’d be correct if you suspected it’s not going to sit well with developer competitors I know for me to share that opinion. But it is my honest opinion. When businesses hire me, they pay for my strategic abilities, not the right to influence my public statements. I think Musio 1 is the biggest no brainer for sample libraries there is. But it’s not equivalent to deep sampled full featured Kontakt libraries. It’s the bang for the buck that’s unmatched.

@Kirean’s advice on a vertical mouse is excellent. I switched to one a couple years ago and can’t live without it. Amazon has a bunch of options, and I don’t think the brands really matter. My family comes in and can’t deal with my mouse at all. Good security device. The first one I got I didn’t like. It was too small in my hand. I really liked a larger model that leaves my hand more open.
FTR, I’m fine. I just didn’t want people seeing the sudden dip in my posting and think that I’m not committed. I am. I just want to be open about my situation, because I don’t want to stop, but I need to.

DISCLOSURE: I’ve advised more than 3 dozen sample and plugin developers on branding and marketing strategy. I’ve never been paid to make posts, they reflect my sincere opinions, and I’ve never been an influencer.
I am sure most of us here will understand if you need to step away momentarily Peter, your commitment to this site has been extremely consistent and VERY much appreciated.
Secondly, apologies as I’m really not sure how much this would help with tendinitis, but i recently saw an ad for a new device called TapXR which straps to your wrist and it picks up on custom finger-tap gestures on any surface, which you would assign to computer keyboard/mouse actions. I think thats how it works at least. Could maybe be helpful as it says “works with any DAW;” I don’t know if this could also be of assistance but thought I’d pass along the info:
If what I’m imagining is possible, could maybe even combine it with something like better touch tool or keyboard maestro for even more of a tailored experience, but that’s just based on my own assumptions, haven’t read about or tested those combos, but I immediately thought of assigning each piano key’s midi cc message to a regular keyboard key, which assigns to a tap with the wristband on whatever surface is most physically manageable, for example.
Thanks for the recommendation, @Teebacca and @Kirean thanks for your suggestion. I did try a vertical mouse at a computer store a couple of years ago, maybe I should just buy one and try it for a while. Thanks for the suggestion.
Beyond the fact that I’m still disappointed in what went down with Larry and the reality is my tendinitis getting really bad a short while later was disappointing because of the timing. But I want to acknowledge and thank everyone in the community for being so kind and thoughtful. This community has come together and made me feel everything, all of the hours I’ve put into this, all of the money I’ve spent, has resulted in keeping together a really wonderful group of people. And yes, I do still hope for Larrry to call me. I’m not into holding grudges or getting even with people; life is too short to be so petty. My hope is always for a resolution and friendship.
So thanks to everyone in the community, and a special thanks to those who’ve posted supportive and encouraging messages — those are always great to see and they mean a lot to me FTR, I didn’t share about my tendinitis for people to feel bad about it or look for pity (I loathe the idea of that; I don’t want it). I just didn’t want people coming here, seeing the deals posts slow down a bit and think that it wasn’t a priority to me. It is. I just got a bit sidelined by tendinitis. It does bum me out a little. But I’m very resilient. I have family with disabilities and advise (pro bono) a wonderful organization that provides mobility equipment for children with disabilities. My tendinitis is nothing compared to what my loved ones and friends I’ve known deal with. I’ve lost a number of friends in recent years, one good friend who lost both legs and one arm in an accident when he was 14, another with severe osteogenesis imperfecta AKA brittle bone disease that severely contorted her bones who had three major strokes before she died before seeing 40. I certainly don’t deal with anything remotely close to that. I wish I could still play music, but I had 12 years of playing before audiences and great memories. It was largely through my encouraging others with disabilities to create music in a forum for people with osteogenesis imperfecta for an organization I provide that made me realize that I gave up on music because I couldn’t play with other musicians anymore of play at a level of proficiency I expected of myself, so I just stopped and it seemed clear to me that way I thought of myself was not how I encouraged others. I’d tell them to not give up, that you can still enjoy music despite your limitations, while personally, my inability to play as I once did caused me to throw in the towel. For me, it’s always been easy to encourage others. It’s harder to do it for myself. It was due to a friend — and then a second friend — encouraging me to try to play again, then to keep at it, that I started up trying to make music a few years ago and haven’t stopped since.
Anyhow, it’s another way too long post from me. Sorry. I promise to get the system emails up this week and after that we open the site to public registration. But very candidly, just speaking from the heart, the encouragement that all of you have been to me has made all of this worthwhile. I’m quite happy with a small community. Yes, I’m going to grow this community, but having this small group has been wonderful. There are truly some really great people here from all around the world.

I remember the old Mac days when there was a thing to strap to your head that would move the mouse around. I always wondered what happened when you were deep in work and sneezed.

Ah, thanks, @jorge. I’m fine and my tendinitis is nowhere near as bad as it was on Friday. I hope you guys don’t misunderstand me and think I’m looking for sympathy. I just don’t want anyone to think that I’ve checked out. I’m as committed as ever and my tendinitis pain is far less than it was even yesterday. I did worry on Friday that I might need to see the doctor and stop for a week or so, that was my real concern. But I can see that isn’t the case. But yeah, you and others in this community have been great to me. I am very appreciative.

Hope your tendinitis is improving, Peter.
Another option may be a graphics tablet? These are good for drawing but not sure how viable they would be as a mouse replacement. I guess you could buy one along with a vertical mouse, see what works and return what doesn’t. You should get a decent returns policy (at the moment you might be also get a longer return date, usually end January).
Hope u r recovering well Peter , u should go show a doctor. Take care of yourself
Thanks @satya. I’ve had this issue for 25 years so it’s pretty routine to handle things at home. And my right wrist and arm is doing better since Friday. It’s just a slight shooting pain, a small fraction of what it was.

Yeah, I’m definitely going to give it a try. But I’ve had this for 25 years now, so it’s nothing surprising, I just spent too much time on the computer. Unfortunately, that’s how I got this problem in the first place. It’s really about rest at this point. I simply should have not been using the computer that much and the overuse caused problems that will probably still be here the rest of the week. But it’s definitely better. Still, just trying this on my phone it’s like I get electric shocks with each letter I press. That’s the reality of my tendinitis and why I stopped playing for 20+ years. If I try to play my acoustic drums, I’m in really bad pain after even 30 seconds. I can go longer on electronic drums and longer than that playing drums with my fingers on pads or the keys but even then, if something is say 120 BPM, even on the keys, after 12 bars,, I’m in pain. A lot of the songs I’ve shared I was in pain playing them at various points. But I still had the drive to finish. It feels like I’ve conquered something to complete a song these days. Although, it’s murder on my timing.
Okay, that’s my TMI post of the day!
