November 9, 2025 at 8:00 am in reply to: Softube: Weiss DS1-MK3, Weiss Compressor/Limiter $57 for Email Subscribers #1000037996
Is this worth $56?
The Weiss software has traditionally been overpriced in my opinion, but also generally very good sound quality. I got the whole bundle as a pricing mistake on an upgrade, but if I hadn’t then I’d be happy to pay this price for the compressor / limiter.
It’s based on the algorithms of very expensive hardware (digital). The hardware DS1-MK3 is over $15K now it seems on Vintage King and being digital, the plugin actually gets a lot closer to that, than an analog emulation can as it’s a 1-1 port of the code:

I’d love to hear from anyone who has either. Also, if those vouchers are transferable, feel free to PM me a spare one guys! 🙂
Here’s a review from Mix magazine.

Check out my music.
VSS-2 for sure. karacter is great, like just about everything elysia do, but VSS-2 is more unique and versatile and feature rich. The correct answer is get both.. Haha..
4Looks like the deal is done already.
It doesn’t look like a glitch, so should be back at JRR. Can get it direct at UJAM too.

While it is entirely possible, it’s also equally plausible they’ve either had some significant IT outage, or ransomware take down a core system.
Given they have a hardware upgrade notification on their website, it would’ve been just as easy for them to have it say they were no longer in business if that were the case.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if it was simply a failed upgrade to their database, or webserver.

That looks pretty right to me.
This is what I’m waiting for, although I’m not sure why. I have never reach for IK first. Still, this gets me Track6, Pianoverse, ARC4, and MODO Drum 1.5. If you don’t get in on this intro price, it’ll be quite a while before it gets down this low again.
I went to IK’s website to check on jam points and I had a $100 coupon waiting for me! Not sure why, but OK! I can’t use jam points AND the coupon, so the coupon got me down to $108 (with tax).
Studio One, Windows, RME UFX, Yamaha MSP7
That’s a pretty great price. I assume you own Total Studio 4 Max to get the voucher. Correct?
This seems really cool, conceptually and the audio demos are pretty compelling, IMO.
Your friend who keeps the beat.
They seem to get a lot of their plugins right. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a winner. CPU usage could be a thing though, as they can sometimes be a bit heavier on resources. As always, I’d demo first, but that’s way with PA too.

That’s really handy to know and I tend to do the same when posting too 🙂
When I checked it right after seeing it here, it was $75 with the code. There were comments in a few other places including one of the Reddits where someone else wasn’t seeing the $50 either. I wonder if it was different regions, or something.
Do you own anything else of theirs by any chance, or could it have been a crossgrade, or extra loyalty offer?
It’s expired now, so it’s a little moot, but might be useful if it comes up again.

Steinberg really gets that right and so may developers penalize early adopters and those that have already purchased by not offering them the same promotions as they do to new customers during their sales.
This is also a much fresher list of freebies.
I’m surprised, as often the same stuff gets rehashed so many times and while I do have some of these, the majority I didn’t.
Hats off to Steinberg lately 🙂

That’s quite debatable 😉
But apart from which DAW is best, Protools should’ve ditched AAX years ago and made life easier for all the developers and their customers.
It’s quite absurd to have different formats for different DAWs and them clinging to AAX. I haven’t installed any CLAP plugins yet (apart from any forced ones, where you can’t choose format), but in a perfect world I’d like to see either that, or VST become the only format.
- I prefer when a native AAX is available but, for VSTi’s I just load them through PluginGuru Unify
- While a single standard would be convenient from a User’s point of view, as a software developer I can easily imagine plenty of reasons for Avid using their own format VST (stability, API integration, versioning, licensing, running on accelerated hardware, dealing with undocumented features, dependencies, etc.), it is not absurd
Is Gear Addiction Syndrome a form of insanity? Here is my vst collection.
What is Gremlins’ Music? watch or listen at Odysee
I’ve actually heard good things about Unify, but relying on it for all of those, given its an unnecessary layer of abstraction (albeit with some potential benefits) means if they ever discontinue it, or it becomes incompatible for whatever reason, the projects won’t open as they should. Natively using the plugins reduces the likelihood of that single point of failure. The problem has already been solved though and that’s just adopt a cross platform standard.
Most of the benefits you mentioned there also apply to VST. Every company could also create their own MIDI standards, or USB, etc. and there could be benefits for them like you mentioned. But those benefits are largely negated by the lack of compatibility.
If a developer needs to code plugins for VST and AAX, that increases the amount of work they need to do to create the plugins and doubles the amount of regression testing needed. It also introduces more chance of errors due to more code and things not working the same across both.
I like being able to open up all my other audio applications and they all just simply work with my VSTs. They’re widely adopted by almost all, apart from Pro Tools.
That’s why a single standard makes everyone’s life so much easier.
And who, pray tell, is Alex Hilton? Is that Paris Hilton’s brother?

He’s pretty well known/regarded notably for his free stereo widening tool but he seems to know his stuff. Looking forward to trying this one.

2January 26, 2025 at 2:12 am in reply to: Rast Sound has released Lumo loudness enhancer reg. €79 Now FREE #1000022907I often just claim these things, sometimes download them at the time and then just set a reminder to install in a month or so.
It gives them a chance to find bugs and update, security software a chance to get exposed to the file and people to submit samples to help with false positives. And if there was anything malicious in there, intentionally, or otherwise, then it would probably come to light by then.
With online activations, it also means less fighting everyone to get it activated if their servers are getting hammered.
Sometimes I also end up hearing how bad some of them are and save adding junk to my system!
I still come across a few false positives, but it is easier overall.

Automatically added when the cart exceeds $100.
2Falcon is a very full synth, plus there are a LOT of $oundware packs. It does come with a pretty large library of included “factory” patches though. The free UVI Workstation (think of it as Falcon “Player”) let’s you use purchased Soundware without owning Falcon. I assume they have a trial for Falcon, but if you are considering buying, do a little research for reseller deals. UVI also has given out vouchers for Soundware in the past to new Falcon owners, and they can be used against sale prices, so some planning will give you more for your $ I am not up on what they are offering right now, as I bought Falcon a long time ago. The $100 vouchers were good for 90 days when I bought in.
I’ve seen so many Falcon owners post positively about Falcon in the Cakewalk Forum — I know @Fleer is among them. I really don’t like UVI’s interface. I wish they would create a Falcon Player interface for UVI. I think they would have taken more marketshare from Kontakt if they did. While I’m a huge fan of Kontakt — it’s my go to sampler — I would LOVE if NI had some better competition. I wish UVI would step things up.
Your friend who keeps the beat. I suppose I’m also the chef at this place.
It turns out Fleer is absolutely right on this one! Just bought it.. Falcon is a monster. I could honestly not even bother about the sampler and use it purely as a synth and be completely happy with the purchase. It’s definitely not just a rompler!
The built in effects are way better than Kontakt which definitely helps, but it’s so versatile and then you can add samples to any of those patches as well of course. Kontakt has a place definitely and it’s a very immediate kind of interface. I’m still learning Falcon and I do think they could probably work on that aspect, but when taking everthing into account, there’s not much competition. Falcon trumps Kontakt. The factory library of sounds it comes with is a much higher quality than Kontakt to my tastes / ears.
That’s not to say that Kontakt isn’t great. I think it is and will continue to use it. But it’s much easier to get interesting and really warm organic sounds out of Falcon and it’s much more feature rich.
It dose have a modular kind of feel to it and I think that’s part of the appeal / problem. They’ve made it so you can do just about anything and that comes at a cost of layout and being able to add effects for example in any part of the synth, from the layer, to the keygroup, to the program, etc. But it’s starting to make sense and give it a month or so and that additional flexibility will make for some crazy experiments 🙂
4December 15, 2024 at 10:10 pm in reply to: 🔥 KILLER DEAL: Bass Master $10 US; Expansions Bundle $12 MAY BE A GLITCH #1000021313I wouldn’t say it’s a glitch.. they have seemed like abandonware for ages and I think they’re just milking the last drops out of them. They’re not even VST3, let alone Apple updates. They were this price for a while now.
I didn’t think Bass Master was a glitch, but the bundle. I’ve never seen it for anything close to $10 before.
Your friend who keeps the beat. I suppose I’m also the chef at this place.
Yeah but the bundle is only useful while you can still use the plugins and I since I got the plugin, there hasn’t been a single update ever (same with Khords). I think PiB likely just contracted someone else to make them and I half wonder if that dev no longer has any association with PiB.
I saw the bundle rhat price the other day and might have grabbed it if they were updating them. Glitches don’t often last that long out in the wild!
I’d say they’re getting close to sunsetting the products for good. Or they will drop a paid V2 update. Hence just wringing every last dollar out of them.

1December 5, 2024 at 6:44 pm in reply to: Acustica Audio has released their 1st synth, Thing. Intro Pricing #1000020767Thanks, @MusicMan, that make a lot of sense. I’m dreading having to learn Studio One Pro 7 after spending decades with Sonar / Cakewalk By Bandlab. Even if Luna is awesome, it’s still another DAW to learn while I could be going deeper in understanding Studio One Pro 7.
One of the things about getting older — and not to get to heavy, but loss — is that time is valuable and finite. Not having to deal with another major learning curve is worth something.
Your friend who keeps the beat. I suppose I’m also the chef at this place.
Well said. Time gets more valuable. So no Luna for me, but Cubase in-depth.
I think I spent less than a day to learn everything I needed for mixing on Luna, so not much outlay in time. But Cubase Pro 14 is definitely going to stay my go-to. In 14 they added a bunch of things, but even the workflow improvements just make it so much better to use. And I already liked it to start with 🙂
2I really wish UAD would offer this same $99 discount on their own site, so people could make use of coupons.
Tangled roots perplex her ways.
I suspsect that’s imminent. Once the 12 days sale they’re having is over, they will start pimping it out too!

Welcome Peter and for some reason I like learning a new DAW, but we’re all different! For recording, or mixing, most of them are really pretty straight forward. Add EQ, compression, effects, some busses if required. I normally find most of the compexity comes with advanced production and MIDI stuff. I used Harrison and really liked it for mixing and it took the sound in a slightly different direction than I may have in Cubase.
That’s the thing, they all kind of do the same thing, but some have their own sound/colour (due to their inbuilt effects, etc. They can all be made to sound the same when you disable those if possible) or workflow.
And sometimes that leads to inspiration, or discovering new things. So having a few options isn’t always a bad thing. I LOVE mixing in Cubase, so that will likely always be my main DAW for that for the foreseeable future.
Completely agreed on time and loss can definitely highlight that.
