First, unlike other forums, there are no censorship blackouts forbidding the discussion of “competitors” products. As a non-industry insider, I can feely let people know exactly how I feel about the new version of Studio One (errg… I mean the new Fender Studio Pro). Honest or critical posts are not removed. I appreciate this.
Second, the deals forum Rocks!!!

Yes, Fender made a very poor decision with the new name. However, as bad as the new name is, it could have been a lot worse. For example they could have called it “Fender DAW”.

Many of the old-timer engineers poo poo fancy graphics and insist that it is best to use and develop your ears when mixing. For a noobie like me, a combination of eyes and ears is best!

2July 16, 2025 at 4:38 pm in reply to: Spitfire Audio Offer – 50% off 3 libraries of your choice #1000032032This is a good opportunity if you are looking to buy something from Best Service. I typically hold out for these promos which usually occur in March and October. I don’t remember ever seeing one in December. Noteworthy is that the prices of several items (for example Studio One 7 upgrade and Pro-Q 4 went up buy several dollars when this promo was announced. Net prices are still better than before the sale, but the $10 and $30 savings are not as good as they appear to be. I think this applies to the newer and more popular items.

3I was going to wait for the next update before upgrading to see if it was worth it to me. However, this discounted update price may lure me in. If this holiday discount occurs every year, then I’m essentially on a discounted fee update cycle. Hmmm, it is a bit of a gamble. The first Version 7 update didn’t do anything for me

1$41 for Model 80 is tempting!
I’m eyeballing the same thing!

I got Cinematic Pads in one of the sales a few years back. Be aware that, while it includes some nice sounding pads, it is not a great fit within the EZkeys universe. The slow attack on a typical pad is at odds with most EZkeys midi which has a lot of rhythm and arpeggiation, etc.

2I just spoke with a first rate PC builder today. He confirmed that with AMD systems, 2 sticks of RAM allows for the RAM to achieve its full speed. Using four sticks of RAM results in a modest decrease in RAM speed. Motherboards with the newer X870E chipset allow a good technician to tune the system to perhaps claw back a little of that lost RAM speed. That said, if I had to choose between faster RAM and more RAM, I would pick more RAM every day of the week.
If you have large orchestral libraries and need 128 GB of RAM, you will need four sticks of RAM to get there. 96 GB of RAM with two sticks might be the sweet spot. If you aren’t using large orchestral libraries, then using two sticks to get to 64 GB of RAM is a good target. Of course, with purging samples, and bouncing tracks, many people get by with much less RAM.

Soul, Blues, & Jazz on a Wurli or Rhodes is my groove.
There’s a ridiculous amount of stuff that’s tempting me on sale at deep discounts right now. Would you say this pre Black Friday — as we’re not even there yet, so who knows what else is in store – is as good or do you think it’s better than last year? I could be wrong, but this year it seems like every developer and retail has started early. Granted, I’m sure a lot of them plan on doing something even bigger for Black Friday itself, but it seems that the majority of developers and music retailers that sell plugins and sample libraries have started Black Friday sales very early this year more than past years. That’s not a careful analysis, that’s just from my recollection of last year’s sales. I might be off. What do you think?
Your friend who keeps the beat.
It does feel like the Black Friday sales are starting earlier every year. I think developers are realizing that most people have a limited amount of money to spent on Black Friday. They want to make sure that they get a good chunk of your money before you reach your spending limit.

Thinking back to the insane amount of deal posting that Larry did over the years, you could certainly make the argument that his obsessive posting had perhaps become a bit unhealthy. We all enjoyed the benefits of his compulsion with no questions asked as to the amount of his time it consumed. That said, Larry did have somewhat of a hero status on the Cakewalk deals forum. If you don’t have a lot going on, this could provide a sense of community and a good self estimate bump. I think Larry really liked the roll of king deal poster. In the big picture, there are far worse addictions than finding deals and posting them. It’s sad to see Larry go, but I am in 100% agreement with you Peter that this forum should remain a refuge from politics and divisiveness. When I stop by Linked Musicians I want to focus on making music!

2Peter, I appreciate the transparency and the amazing work that you have done on the web site. I also very much appreciate Larry and his prodigious posting of fantastic deals. I’m going to be super bummed if you guys can’t make up and carry on with the friendship. I’m hoping that after a short break to take a breather everything will be smooth sailing again. For goodness sake, Black Friday is just around the corner! We need to bring our A game to the Deals forum!
