This for me was one of those “it’s only $5 what can go wrong?” purchases. I’ll never use Parallel Aggressor I don’t think. AberrantDSP or Klevgrand fill that hole for me. Figured Zak Sounds Deep Waters as a freebie could be nice. I may be wrong but it seems pretty buggy. The xy pad, to my ears, does nothing. I wrote to him just to to get some clarification and will report back here if I get a reply.

He also has a video on his site (something about “better than a free plugin”) which I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions on. Commenting on that here doesn’t seem appropriate but I know what I thought.

If I could I’d get my $5 back.

Nah Pete. Not interested in it. For the most part on my guitars I’ll use Kuassa fuzzes. I have iZotope Trash but never use it. A good distortion plugin if you need one is the United Plugins one. I’d wait and get it on sale if it was me. That said, if there’s another plugin you’ve been thinking of getting then you’re getting Distiller free anyway so no harm right?

After being interested in this plugin since it went on sale for $9 — I posted the sale a little while back — I started researching it over time. I told myself that I wouldn’t buy it unless I could find a discount code that made it irresistible. THE RESEARCH PROCESS

I started with a Sound on Sound review, because, well, influencers are paid promoters. The only hope we have of honest reviews are with legitimate journalists, and in this industry, Sound on Sound is the truest to journalistic principles. Here’s a link to the SoundonSound review. These two influencer videos gave me a good idea of the sound of the plugin when used with guitars and an electric piano. I especially like the chorus effect on Analog Drift.

I realize that a lot of you think that big time endorsers are meaningless, but I disagree. This is a small developer that doesn’t have the money to shell out big money to influencers. Yes, they might spend a little money with micro influencers, but that’s not going to get a big name producer or engineer to give them an endorsement. My experience is that heavy-hitter producers and engineers that give testimonials to small developers really like the products. And this developer has some heavy-hitter endorsers for the plugin, for example:

Probably! Unfortunately I only have a real old cpu and therefore haven’t tried it yet as it will be hopeless…

I don’t think any of the M-Tron Tape banks are included. The Lament expansion comes under the preset packs.

I personally like Chambertron. I have the GForce one and also the Reason Rack Extension.

I’m a little bit irritated because I’d like to have all the M-Tron Tapes. I have half of them. Buying the other 8 would be almost as expensive as buying M-Tron Complete. Even with the dynamic discounts. If I’d really been on the ball I’d have used the BF20 coupon which would have taken of the VAT. But I wasn’t so I guess I’ll just need to wait and see what deals they come up with in the future.

I was going to write that I’m a sucker for Tron libraries, but I’m also a sucker for piano libraries, for Wurly libraries, guitar libraries, bass libraries, acoustic drum libraries, glockenspiel libraries, and string libraries. I tend to not use synth, brass, woodwinds or full on orchestral libraries as much, so I’m significantly stronger in that area.  For the most part — except for the strings — I’m going after the instruments in my home growing up that I loved to play and record on multitrack reel-to-reel and cassette.

Maybe I should create a forum or subforum for us to work on strategies for buying LESS stuff? I’m serious. If you want me to do it, let me know. Obviously, I would have a good deal of humility in creating and posting there, as I’m pretty terrible about managing my GAS. Except that I MOSTLY only buy inexpensive stuff when there are ridiculously good deals. Stuff like UAD Signature V2 for $124 back in August, Musio 1 for $179 on 2024 Black Friday  (sure, it went lower, but I still think that was an amazing deal; now it’s only available for $399)…. What could we call this subforum? GASoholics unanimous?  We could just use it to make a lot of jokes about this habit most of us share. Seriously. Let me know! We need to inject more fun into the site.

Haha. Yeah, we’re strong together. I’m not sure where my GAS has gone really. I have a few strategies which more often than not take away the impulse buy. Would you like me to list them? They may be of use :). And yeah, those Tron tapes are becoming an obsession. But they’re way too expensive I think. I wouldn’t mind so much if there wasn’t VAT on top and that the price is in £s.
