Paul McCartney is going to release his first new track in five years, a protest to the use of AI in the music industry.

I’ve tried to keep my real last name out of search and AI for this site and one of the big AI tools just figured it out. I’m not sure how. But let’s keep it off here. I use my pseudonym from my working musician days, Peter Woods.
Woods was my mother’s maiden name — although legally it was an adopted name and not her birth name (so I’m not…Read More

Dad and daughter compare how many Radiohead songs are on their Spotify playlists.
Dad: 180
Daughter: 48To be fair, I also include Thom Yorke solo songs. My wife says I am in the Radiohead “superfan” category.

The day’s not even over, and we’ve already had the highest traffic for any single day in LinkedMusician’s history. In fact, we’ve had more unique visitors today than we had in an entire week during our first several months. I did expect November to be a busy month, but I didn’t anticipate that we’d be at this level. For the IT pro members, I…Read More

RIP, Jack DeJohnette, one of my all-time favorite drummers and from my hometown of Chicago. I had the opportunity to see Jack perform many years ago and even to talk with him for a bit and let him know how much his drumming inspired me. I even shared with him that when I was 16, I got to hang out with Buddy Rich, but meeting him was a greater…Read More

For music software-related retailers, so far, Plugin Boutique is easily owning the pre-Black Friday sales promotion space. They are bombarding us with killer deals and bringing Black Friday pricing to late October.

There is a ridiculous amount of deep discounted sample libraries, plugins, and music production software on sale right now. Valhalla Plugins, SoundPaint, and FabFiler are the only major developers I can think of that aren’t presently and probably won’t be doing deep discounts this season (Valhalla and SoundPaint don’t have sales, and FabFilter’s…Read More

Last year CHATGPT literally wrote my eulogy, claiming that I had made significant contributions to the field of marketing and cause for better ethics for the profession, but that I had died. Today, I was looking at the analytics reports for LinkedMusicians and fond that there’s a page that actually links from Cakewalk Forum to LinkedMusicians –…Read More

If anyone wants to connect on Facebook, you can find me (okay, my pseudonym from my musician days) here. I am contemplating building up the social media channels for LinkedMusicians in the future:

Do we have any Rush fans here? I’m certainly one.
Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson have decided to give it another go. The surviving members of Rush are going on tour next year. You can see the dates in the attached graphic.

Single kick, I like her already. Her playing on the song sounds like she’s listened to some Neil for sure, and probably really digs Steve Gadd.

A great observation, @superrabbit. Okay, maybe I’m biased saying , great observation, because I too, was super impressed by the fact that she’s only using one bass drum pedal — I assumed that she was using a double bass pedal when I first heard her. Nope. She just has a super quick foot and great technique — and great technique all around. She’s…Read More

Well, one thing I’ve seen this week, as website traffic has more than doubled over the last week, registrations are starting to pick up and SPAMMERS are registering at a rate of around 5-7 per day. I have been impressed at how well our software has been doing at catching them. Only one got through and made a SPAM topic, which I deleted within 30…Read More

Looking over the latest website stats, we grew by 65.4% over the last 28 days, which is an increase from our previous growth rate over the past few months, which has stayed around 51-53 percent per month. Our registrations are picking up a little. They’re always higher during periods when people are posting on the site. That remains our greatest…Read More

What’s your Franks Red Hot in plugin form, you know, the “I Put That SH*T On Everything” one that just seems to fit in everywhere?
For me it’s Overloud’s Gem Mod for whatever width everything needs. Does the job perfectly, and so efficiently too. (yes the one that was a freebie at some point, can’t remember where though).

You mean on every track or in every project?
There’s nothing that I use on every track, as close as I’d get to that would be MCompressor and MEqualizer.
On every project, my go to bus reverb is MTurboReverb. My output meter is Mastering the Mix LEVELS. Those are the only plug-ins that are in all of my templates.

Anika Nilles, a killer drummer out of Germany, will be taking over Neil Peart’s drum duties. If you haven’t heard her, I think she’s going to do a great job.
