I don’t know if you caught it, but we’re shutting down the forums and social media groups at LinkedMusicians and transitioning the community over to our subreddit, please keep us updated on Triple Spiral Audio and this project there. This site will continue as a resource moving forward with our various free tools and lists of best free resources and possibly add best deals of the week and best DAWS, plugins, sample libraries and tools chosen by the LinkedMusicians community. It’s simply been too costly and time-consuming to keep operating a social media platform, with that piece moved to the subreddit, we can continue to grow the community and keep growing our resources here.

The answer is yes. While we certainly will see a lot more new members posting on the subreddit and that increase in members will certainly come with challenges, we will have the same zero tolerance for toxic behavior that we have always had. It is a core value of this community and I wouldn’t do this without holding to that value. Everyone deserves to be treated respectfully, and anything less will not be accepted. Furthermore, everyone should have the right to share honest experiences with the tools they use to make music in a respectful, civil manner. That will not change.

John LennonIt’s my take on the NY Times framework, the 30 best living American songwriters. If it included deceased songwriters or songwriters outside the US, there’s no way I could keep it to 30 and McCartney and Lennon would be at the top of the list.
Neil Diamond was one I debated putting on. He probably should be there.

I know this library is phenomenal and I’ve been aware of Greg working on it for probably a decade. FTR, Greg is incapable of putting out anything mediocre. Seriously. I’ve worked with brilliant technologists in the electronics and engineering world. I was responsible for persuading Padmasree Warrior to become a blogger and coached and edited her blog for her first year as part of my pilot project at Motorola. Greg is the innovator in this space, his peers know it — when we say that he’s a sample library developer, we’re actually technically a bit off, because he is using physical modelling principles, that’s part of the magic of his libraries. I’ve been asked by some very well-respected developers if I could introduce them to Greg. The man put 10 years into this. As always, do the research. But it’s superb.

I’ll create a post flair (a category, basically the equivalent of a forum) for non-music production-related deals (games, photo, video, and design software, SaaS, etc.) at r/LinkedMusicians. I think the category makes a lot of sense for our group anyhow, because I know a lot of our group loves gaming, and uses photo, video, and design software. READ/WATCH: Mag Articles / Podcasts, Audio Production & Songwriter's DictionariesI think that all of us were originally Sonar users (I go back to the first version). Have any of you successfully converted your Sonar files over to Fender Studio Pro? I know that @bapu had posted about a conversion app someone wrote, but I am yet to embark on that mission, and I have hundreds of project files.
I thought I might as well get started at some point instead of popping old projects open in Sonar. Every sign from BandLab makes it look like Sonar is being used for parts for NEXT and will be gone easily within the next 2 years. I want to get things concerted before I’m no longer able to open them in Sonar. I am not looking forward to the process of converting everything. I’d love to have an idea of what others have experienced so I can properly set my expectations.

READ/WATCH: Mag Articles / Podcasts, Audio Production & Songwriter's DictionariesI’m particularly glad to see Peter from IK posting here. On another music forum he regularly took a lot of abuse, but to me he always seemed like a good guy who was genuinely trying to help. Anyway, Peter-IK, glad you’re here and thanks for posting.
Peter and I have been friends before Peter took a marketing job and started working for IK.He is a good guy.
Hmmm…it does seem like I’m saying Peter has more cred because he wasn’t always a marketer. Peter was on the technology side, but worked for a company that made software used by marketers. His educational background includes a degree from Berklee School of Music and training from Juilliard. My pre-marketing professional background includes being a musician, photographer and photo lab technician. I also did a newspaper column on new businesses. Although my marketing background includes a lot of strategy work that most people wouldn’t even realize is part of marketing and a lot of publication work — like launching, helping write and edit dozens of publications on political risk (covering things like unstable political regimes and political extremist groups) and terrorism risk — working with a team that advised on the US Dept of Homeland Security and had two employees on the advisory board. Not what most people think of when they think of marketing. But then, I also advised Unilever on marketing their mayonnaise brand online — which is more like what most people think of when they hear the word marketing. Some of the folks in marketing do have good ethics — and I know that Peter is one of them.

READ/WATCH: Mag Articles / Podcasts, Audio Production & Songwriter's Dictionaries2May 21, 2026 at 7:14 am in reply to: The Evolution Begins: Why LinkedMusicians 2.0 is the Future + THE LATEST UPDATES #1000048963I realize that it’s A LOT to ask people to make the move to the subreddit and that we certainly won’t see everyone come along with us. That’s understood, and I have zero hard feelings against anyone who isn’t making the journey with us. This is a passion project. It’s about the love of creating music and my love for sharing that joy with others and encouraging others in that endeavor. But I know this as a strategist. This community will grow at a rate it never could, and come alive like it never could, if we remained a standalone social media platform like we are today.
If I created this to be a deals site, seeing the site hit 1,100 active visitors per day for only being public for one year would be a great milestone. But that was never my objective. User interaction in the community is the criterion that matters, and that simply isn’t here — and I know how to improve that and make our community come alive. My instincts — and partially based on what I’m seeing — is that we’ll see 25% to 35% of our community members make the move to the subreddit. We’re already almost there. IMO, it’s a win and that’s a great. The fact that we had a community member, @fretman step up and take over posting deals so that I can now focus on growing our community and leading the move is fantastic (and we can use more community members posting deals too; I am offering to set anyone up who asks with a deals dashboard with hundreds of deals everyday where they just use their judgement to curate — to pick the deals they think are the best for our community).
It’s how we grow. And if we get to 10,000 users in our subreddit and we’re active, I will reevaluate reopening the forums and social media groups on this site or simply having a one login access to LinkedMusicians site and our subreddit community. As you might have noticed, I’m already working on a feature I had originally planned for LinkedMusicians, music-related theory, trivia, and word games that the community can play together. When I had to take over deal posting, I was unable to keep working on the functionality I planned to add to the site and lacked the time to do the things it takes to grow the community — beyond growing site traffic, which is much easier than growing the community aspect of the site.
I’d also ask, consider this. While all of the LLMs (AI tools) are knowledgeable on websites, none of them can compare to Gemini, because it has Google’s resources, like their unparalleled index of websites and Knowledge Graph. I suggest this to you and everyone else reading this, visit Gemini and ask these questions in three separate prompts:
- What is LinkedMusicians?
- Is it any different than the long-established forums like KVR, VI-Control, and GearSpace?
- Do you think LinkedMusicians has been effective at creating an environment that is free of or less prone to the ethically problematic marketing practices from the big traditional forums?
That’s Google’s AI’s analysis of LinkedMusicians, comparing it to alternatives. I guarantee that everyone will learn something about this community that they didn’t know before and no, that is simply an AI chatbot regurgitating copy on this website. It is a comparative analysis and Gemini is great at doing that with websites — better than any other LLM, in my experience.

Yesterday was one of the highest traffic days that LinkedMusicians has ever seen. It was driven by (1) our Deals Forum, and (2) our curated lists of best free sample libraries, and (3) best free synths. In fact, the single day of traffic was what the subforum our Early Adopters came from sees in the average week — one day, for a community that’s only been public for one year. However, even if our registration was open, those type of visitors are very transactional and tend to not register. That will very likely be different on our subreddit (r/LinkedMusicians) where there is a faster paced format and a format that is sure to result in far more conversations that this format. Mark my words. With the same level of deal posting and going beyond deals — and with things like our games — we’ll grow a lot faster and the community will be a lot more fun.

READ/WATCH: Mag Articles / Podcasts, Audio Production & Songwriter's Dictionaries2I absolutely love PianoVerse. If it were only PianoVerse Royal Upright Y5 and nothing else for $15, I would give this a very strong recommendation and call it a pro-brainer. But considering a MODO Bass title, MODO Drum — even without the other libraries, starting at $15, this is clearly in PRO-BRAINER (that’s upper case, because I’m shouting!) territory. For anyone looking for an excellent, high-end virtual acoustic piano, for $15 (the bundles go higher, that’s where it starts to get the upright piano, you also get the Yamaha Grand Piano Y7 in the $30 bundle), this is an insanely great deal.
Where is one of my silly pro-brainer graphics? Here we go:

READ/WATCH: Mag Articles / Podcasts, Audio Production & Songwriter's Dictionaries3May 20, 2026 at 8:48 am in reply to: The Evolution Begins: Why LinkedMusicians 2.0 is the Future + THE LATEST UPDATES #1000048943Yesterday I took the same post I made in our subreddit and reposted it to r/nativeinstruments. While the original post in our subreddit only had a single comment and one up vote in two days, within a half hour, the repost in NI’s subreddit had 11 comments. Before anyone sees that and thinks to themselves — “wow, that’s depressing” — consider this. That lack of reaction to the original post is very similar to what would happen if I posted that thread on LinkedMusicians — actually, I did post it here, and the response was non-existent. And if you delved into the site stats, you would see that A LOT of people viewed that thread here — but none of them commented. That is the reality of our situation, lots of visitors and extremely low interaction.
So why is it better to have that problem on our subreddit than this site? Because Reddit is one of the ten most popular sites on the web. Reddit users can search and join other communities of interest in a single click. Even more, our presence there means that I can repost r/LinkedMusicians post in other relevant communities where those posts will be of value and grow our community in a way that is not possible with a standalone social media platform like LinkedMusicians.com. Our subreddit gives us an incredible opportunity to reach and grow our community that is perfect for LinkedMusicians. Over the past year, far more than 100,000 web users have come to use LinkedMusicians as a great resource for deals on DAWs, plugins, and sample libraries, for finding lists of excellent, curated and recommended tools, for researching the tools they use to make music, and to learn more about the deceptive practices in the industry, all in an environment that aggressively works to ensure that toxicity isn’t a part of this community. Even more, we do it in a place that advocates for music producers. That’s not just rare in this industry, it’s non-existent. Part of the reason is that it’s not profitable.
So my job is to take this attention and grow our registered membership and the social interactions of the LinkedMusicians membership. My passion project was never to create a deal site. That doesn’t drive me to invest my time and money in this admittedly idealistic project. My objective was to create an environment without the deceptive and manipulative marketing practices that are pervasive in the major and non-major forums, subreddits, and Facebook Groups in this industry and to create an environment where toxicity — which is extremely profitable for these communities — is not accepted. The reason toxicity is profitable is that controversy interests people. That drives up activity and things like time spent on sites, increases page views, leads to more clicks, etc — all of which is how these businesses make money.
What doesn’t drive revenue? Creating a non-toxic environment where unethical, illegal, and regulation-violating business practices are specifically forbidden. Encouraging community members to share negative experiences as well as positive ones with the companies they buy from, including our affiliate partners. That’s unheard of, and, from a revenue standpoint, it’s an outrageously bad idea that no for-profit business is going to do. But that’s exactly what LinkedMusicians allows. Not off-the-rails, crazy hate rants against developers — that’s of no value when you’re researching products and brands, and that kind of incivility creates a toxic environment. Honest, civil, and open conversations about experiences is what it’s about. And this separates the mission of LinkedMusicians from every other existing online community, and it’s starting to be noticed by Google and Gemini, and the various LLMs as well as among Redditors.
So right now, as we transition from this Forum and OPEN MIC, I recommend that everyone register over at the subreddit. While @fretman has stepped up to be our Deal Master, I’m going to focus on making this transition easy for everyone. Consider me our community’s guide for this evolution of our community. I’ve posted helpful posts here on our subreddit that explain the differences between legacy forums like ours, KVR, GearSpace, and VI-Control to make the transition is easier — and to show why Reddit is one of the ten most popular websites.
If you have any questions, please post them! I realize that change isn’t always embraced. But this change is not only going to preserve the mission of LinkedMusicians, I believe it’s going to take us to a completely different level, and in time, to a level of interaction that we’ve never seen before. I’ll post updates in this thread.
– Peter

READ/WATCH: Mag Articles / Podcasts, Audio Production & Songwriter's Dictionaries@thesteven Based on inMusic’s long history of deep discounting, I feel very confident that we’ll find bigger discounts in the future. As a marketing strategist, I don’t think the outrageously deep discounts in this industry are good for brands. They devalue them. When a developer puts a product that once sold for $600 on sale for $69, the lowest price becomes the product’s perceived value. InMusic deep discounts at levels far deeper than what NI has done. Consequently, I expect that NI will discount at least at the level they had been doing prior to the acquisition, and more likely, at even deeper levels.

The prizes have been distributed. And I, once again, want to give my thanks to Peter / IK Multimedia and Greg / Orange Tree Samples for supporting LinkedMusicians.
So that the community is perfectly clear, the giveaway was done to celebrate our community. I didn’t charge IK or Orange Tree Samples, it was purely about creating a fun, engaging event to reward and build our community and seeing two of the best developers in the industry show their support for our community is incredibly gratifying. I hope that our community doesn’t take that for granted. LinkedMusicians — even according to Google — is unique in the music tech industry in how we operate, especially in encouraging our members share both the positive AND negative experiences and opinions with the tools and companies they use. Let’s be clear, MOST companies are not on board with that. That’s why legacy forums censor members. Most brands don’t want to pay money for an environment where people can authentically share negative experiences, because it hurts sales.
I’ve been managing digital marketing, writing, and speaking about brand authenticity for decades — and that concept is something I not only believe is ethically right, I think it’s wise for businesses to adopt that philosophy. But the truth is, most brands don’t abide by that, and this industry is certainly no exception. Peter / IK Multimedia and Greg / Orange Tree Samples represent two companies and two people who do welcome that authenticity, and I am proud and thankful to have their support.

The real life Peter loves to joke around and yes, he will inject a swear for a laugh — especially if it gets a laugh.
Also, everyone, let’s show some appreciation for @fretman. He has been doing an awesome job posting deals and is the main reason that traffic to LinkedMusicians has increased by 75% in the past week.

Note that while, like every major social media site, parts of Reddit are as toxic as other sites. But the LinkedMusicians subreddit will have the same values that we have here at the site and will not have the toxicity some subreddits have. Consider that r/LinkedMusicians is our little piece of the subreddit universe that maintains the same values that we have everywhere else, but once you step outside of our subreddit, it’s the wild west and parts of Reddit can be incredibly toxic, just like the big social media sites or highly toxic forums in this space like VI-Control. Our subreddit will always maintain our values.

The list was small enough that I had fond memories of everyone who entered and, seriously, wished that everyone could have won. @gusgranite and @mira have responded so everything has gone like clockwork. As we will soon transition to the subreddit, I plan on doing more fun things for our community like this giveaway in the future, so know that even if you didn’t win this time, there will be plenty of future opportunities.
Please feel free to post in this thread again, as I’ve opened it up to comments now that the giveaway is complete.

I made this post on the Cakewalk Forum the day Waves made their announcement. I’m not as confident about my inMusic prediction, but I do enjoy making a prediction and seeing how things go. Here’s part of my past track record:
….My guess is that Waves move to subscription only will be short lived, and hopefully, before our plugins stop working, they’ll switch back to subscription and perpetual licenses…

(Plus a huge thanks to our crew) #1000048656Hey all, I just hope if you appreciate fretmam’s effort you can let him know. When everyone notices but doesn’t post, he’s not going to know and seeing that people appreciate his efforts means something, so if you could comment here and/or in the deal threads he’s making and let him know you appreciate what he’s doing, I know it will be meaningful. And he deserves it.
